#TutuTuesday: A Peek Back at 1963 - When Ballet Took Centre Stage!

Hello my dearest Tutu Twirlers!

It’s Emma here, and I’m back for another #TutuTuesday! I've been hopping through time again, and this week I'm whisking you back to a fabulous time in the history of tutus: January 15th, 1963!

I popped onto the Eurostar to Paris, a journey which never fails to delight! I just adore the excitement of arriving in a new place, all those incredible shops, and of course the theatre, which is truly thriving! Paris is just the place for fashion and performance. And tutus? Let’s just say, darling, they’re everywhere!

The Golden Age of Tutu

1963, darling, was truly a golden age for ballet. In the theatre, ballerinas were floating across the stage in the most dazzling tutus, all swathes of silk and tulle. Oh, and let’s not forget the colours! It was a riot of colours: rich emeralds, sumptuous rubies, and of course my favourite, darling – delicate pink!

I popped over to the Paris Opera for the performance of Giselle, one of my all-time favourite ballets. The tutu designs in this performance were simply stunning – you could feel the emotion of Giselle in every pleat.

The Big News of the Day

Speaking of the big day, 15th of January, 1963, wasn’t just a pretty face - a fantastic ballet performance took place that day! Quelle joie! I popped into the Palais Garnier, the iconic Paris opera house. The atmosphere was electric, darling, it simply buzzed with anticipation.

And the show, darling, the show! A truly breathtaking ballet. They say a ballerina’s tutu doesn’t only hold fabric, it holds emotions, and oh darling, this performance held every emotion under the Parisian moon! It was magical, it was thrilling, it was ballet at its finest.

A Parisian Tea Room Discovery

After the show, darling, I needed a bit of a rest. Now, a true bon viveur like me knows that you just can’t have a trip to Paris without indulging in a bit of afternoon tea, so I popped into a darling little tea room on the Champs-Élysées.

They say that every fashion trend starts in Paris, and as I sipped my delicious Earl Grey, I couldn’t help but notice the delightful array of pink tutus on display in the shop windows! Pink tutus and ballet slippers were practically everywhere - darling, this was just heaven on earth! I had to get my own pink tutu from there – I simply couldn't resist! I got a lovely ballet-themed teacup to go with it too, just darling! It's the perfect pink souvenir to bring back from Paris.

Fashion Inspiration

The 60s, oh darling, were all about graceful shapes and dramatic flair. Even on the street, you could see those fabulous skirts - like mini tutus, perfectly poised between twirling and elegant, and not a bit too formal. It's just the most beautiful era for fashion, don’t you agree, darlings?

Ballet Lessons and Tutu Twirls

And, oh darling, of course I made time for some ballet lessons during my time in Paris. I took a beginner’s class at a charming ballet school tucked away on a cobblestone street – so incredibly chic! I felt like I was living in one of those magnifique ballets, surrounded by delicate melodies and lovely costumes. You wouldn't believe it, darling, it even came with afternoon tea – how divine! I danced, I laughed, and I felt the magic of the tutus take hold once again.

My Tutu Inspiration

This trip to Paris has absolutely filled me with inspiration, darlings. And my heart just wouldn't let me travel back to Derbyshire without a brand new pink tutu. It's absolutely the most beautiful one – made from such a soft, sheer fabric, and the shade of pink is simply magnifique. I even bought myself a new pair of pointe shoes and pink ballet flats too – darling, these shoes are absolutely to die for. I just have to wear them everywhere, they really make my new pink tutu pop!

The Inspiration for Your Pink Tutu Moment

Darling, let 1963 be a reminder to always be bold. To twirl a little bit more, to take on a challenge, to live life with the same elegance and grace as those ballerinas. Remember: every woman is a ballerina at heart!
