Tutu Tuesday: #6846 - Twirling Back in Time to March 12th, 1963!
Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, your resident tutu-wearing time-travelling fashionista, ready to whisk you back in time for another edition of Tutu Tuesday! This week, I've hopped onto the Orient Express (the romance of travelling by train!) to land in none other than Paris, the undisputed capital of ballet. And what a date we have on our hands: March 12th, 1963. Can you believe it? We're nearly in the 1960s!
Now, let's dive straight into our fashion frenzy! I’ve got my eye on the utterly divine fashion going on here, which feels like a delicious mix of the chic, minimalist 50s and the fun, free spirit of the swinging 60s. Ballet, darling, is undergoing quite the transformation – the lines are becoming cleaner, the movement freer, and it’s oh so exciting! The world of fashion seems to be getting caught in the same kind of artistic tornado, with fashion icons like Jackie Kennedy, who is quite the fan of ballet, leading the way!
You know I love to talk about tutus! In 1963, they're evolving as well, darling. Imagine the slightest shift of fabric – think sheerness and gossamer designs! They're like clouds, but perfectly sculpted clouds – the kind you want to twirl through in! They still retain the quintessential ballet silhouette but feel a bit more playful, a little bit less stiff, just like how the dance itself is going.
Of course, my outfit today is the epitome of chic 1963 Parisian elegance. It's a confection of fluffy tulle in the most adorable pale pink, with layers that softly bounce as I twirl (which I do, oh so frequently). It’s all about creating that lovely ‘ballet on a day out' look – chic, a little playful, and perfectly in sync with the world of 1963 fashion!
And here’s the cherry on top for March 12th, 1963: On this very day, in London, my homeland, a momentous ballet performance happened. The Royal Ballet presented ‘Giselle’, and from the reports, darling, it was quite a sight! It is one of the most celebrated romantic ballets and for good reason - oh my, the emotion, the drama!
This truly brings to light why we need to get our ballet fix. There’s a magical, mystical quality about the ballet that moves me right down to my little pink tutu-wearing toes! The choreography is like telling a story with your body. It is simply magical. You know how much I love watching performances, darling, so naturally, I had to go and get a front row seat for tonight's performance. You wouldn't believe the costumes, it's quite a delight for the eyes!
Oh, but we are only halfway through the week! So, here is my Tutu Tuesday challenge for you: Pick up a soft, dreamy tulle fabric, channel that whimsical ballet energy, and make yourself a twirly skirt for this week's fashion. We’re making our own tiny touch of ballet magic this week, darling! And be sure to tag #TutuTuesday on all your photos - let’s share our creativity and passion for tutus and ballet. And, if you're feeling really fancy, find a local performance this week and share a glimpse into your balletic world.
But, as the old saying goes, ‘all work and no play…’ So, it’s off I pop to the Garnier Opera House! (Which is quite a sight, darling. Be sure to add it to your travel wish list, the grandeur and opulence – exquisite!). Until next week, darling, stay twirling!
Much love and fluffy tutus,
Emma
