#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 6849

Hello dears! It’s your favourite tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back with another instalment of your #TutuTuesday journey through ballet history! Today, we’re twirling our way to 2nd April 1963, a date that's bursting with artistic excitement, just like a brand-new, perfectly-pink tutu! 🩰✨

It’s been a rather whirlwind of a journey! Last week, I was basking in the glamour of 19th century Paris, witnessing the glorious birth of the tutu as we know it today. And now, I’m whisked off to the bustling heart of…well, New York City!

New York! Imagine: dazzling lights, towering skyscrapers, and the intoxicating energy of a city buzzing with dreams. I’ve always wanted to see New York in its heyday, and today’s the perfect time for my first taste of its dazzling theatre scene!

You see, the date 2nd April 1963 holds a special place in the heart of every ballet aficionado. On this very day, the legendary choreographer Jerome Robbins was given the Tony Award for his absolutely brilliant contribution to "The Girl Who Came To Supper." A magnificent, full-length musical starring the gorgeous Ethel Merman, it combined a sprinkle of romance, a dash of drama, and, of course, those mesmerising dance routines.

I'm just brimming with excitement, ready to step back in time and see this legendary show for myself! (But don't worry, I'm staying in my pink tutu – it’s my lucky charm for seeing stunning ballet shows). The whole atmosphere will be electrifying - I can practically feel the energy through the fabric of time!

You know, talking about this amazing moment in ballet history, it makes me realise just how lucky we are today to be able to enjoy a variety of dance performances - from classic ballet productions like “Swan Lake” and “The Nutcracker”, to groundbreaking, experimental works like Robbins’ own creations! There's a dazzling world of dance out there waiting for us all!

The best part about my time travelling, of course, is the amazing shopping opportunities. Imagine! Finding yourself surrounded by the latest fashion trends right when they were first released. This time, it's all about The New York Scene. I’m absolutely going to be hitting Fifth Avenue and grabbing myself a snazzy new dress. Perhaps a sleek little black number or a striking floral design! (Nothing a good sprinkle of pink can't accentuate).

Anyway, I'm just so thrilled to be here! It’s an amazing time to be a ballet lover and there's so much more to explore in this incredible era. I’ll be back next Tuesday with more captivating ballet stories for your #TutuTuesday delight! Until then, don't forget to twirl with joy, embrace the wonder of dance, and always, always, remember to embrace a touch of pink!

Yours truly,

Emma,

Your Pink Tutu Time Traveller 💖✨🩰
