#TutuTuesday: A Dance Through Time - 9th July 1963 (Post #6863)

Bonjour mes amies! ๐Ÿฉฐ

It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu-wearing time traveller, back with another delve into the delightful world of ballet and, of course, tutus! This week, we're taking a whirl back to the 9th of July, 1963. It's a gloriously sunny day in New York, the city that never sleeps, and my fabulous pink tutu (yes, you already know it's my favourite) is ready for an exciting adventure.

A Whirlwind of Dance and Glamour

In 1963, the world of ballet was bustling with talent! Think of all the famous ballerinas like Margot Fonteyn and Natalia Makarova, gracefully soaring across the stages. And oh my, the costumes! The era was a kaleidoscope of elegance and femininity, and nothing captured that better than the exquisite tutus worn by the ballerinas. The romantic style, the layered tulle, the carefully chosen colours, all coming together in a symphony of sheer delight!

Speaking of sheer delight, I can't wait to see if I can snag myself a little vintage piece from this period. My last haul was amazing, a blush-pink, beaded number with the most delicate silk lining. Oh, I just can't resist a touch of vintage sparkle!

Catching the Shows and Feeling the Buzz

Today, 9th July, the buzz around the theatre scene in New York is palpable. I'm particularly intrigued by "The Merry Widow" musical, featuring the charming choreography of Jerome Robbins. He's one of the giants in the ballet world, you know. Can you imagine? He danced with Martha Graham herself, that legendary lady of movement and modern expression! Just picturing that has me pirouetting right in my pink tutu.

I'll be heading down to the Metropolitan Opera House to see the show. Can you imagine the shimmering lights and the atmosphere of the place? It's an experience like no other. It just makes me want to hop up and dance in the aisle. (But of course, I'll be keeping my tutu-clad legs firmly on the ground!)

Fashion Trends - A Little Twist of Retro

I must say, 1963 is quite the era for fashion inspiration. We're seeing all kinds of exciting styles on the street, from bold, geometric prints to those daring miniskirts. Speaking of daring, I've just spotted a group of ladies in colourful headbands and floral dresses - absolutely lovely!

But nothing beats the elegant silhouettes of the early 60s. These ladies know how to work a good pair of heels and a sleek tailored look. And don't forget those wonderful vintage sunglasses - so much more stylish than those chunky frames we have today.

Train Travel - The Chic Way to See the World

After taking in the show and maybe a little boutique browsing in New York City (I'm on the lookout for that perfect pair of ballet flats for my collection, you know), I'll be catching the train back to Derbyshire. You see, a train journey is my absolute favourite way to travel, It's so peaceful, the rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels lulling you into a lovely, reflective mood. And there's just something incredibly romantic about looking out at the passing landscape from a train window, don't you think?

Speaking of romance, can we talk about the train travel in this period? The elegance, the stylish attire of the passengers. I can just imagine those gentlemen in suits and ladies in hats and gloves. It's a beautiful era, don't you think?

Ending With a Tutu-licious Note

And that brings us to the end of another exciting journey through time. I'll be back next week with another dose of TutuTuesday history, full of ballet, fashion, and fun! In the meantime, please remember to spread the pink tutu love! Everyone looks amazing in a pink tutu, believe me. Just ask any ballerina who has ever worn one!

Remember, we are all ballerinas at heart, even if we are just dancing through life in our everyday routines.

See you soon, and don't forget to keep those tutus twirling!

Love,

Emma xx
