#TutuTuesday: A Dance Back in Time! (Post #6933)
Hiya lovelies! 🩰 It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind adventure, ready to share another little bit of ballet history with you! As usual, my lovely pink tutu is accompanying me on my travels - couldn't imagine being anywhere else!
This week, we're going right back to 10th November, 1964, and what a time to be in ballet, let me tell you! It's a Wednesday - but that's no excuse not to celebrate! Remember, you can wear a pink tutu ANY day you like, darling!
But back to 1964! I’d just popped off the train from Derbyshire (so stylish! I always take the train for its fashion vibes) and found myself right in the heart of the ballet world, ready to witness some of the most amazing performances! This particular day saw some fantastic dance events on, not to mention my new pair of pink ballet shoes! It felt like everyone was going to the ballet, or at least, everyone stylish was! Even those not taking to the stage had the look, the style, the grace, in 1964! The men weren’t too bad either - let’s face it, every time a man wears a suit and looks sharp, he’s just channelling his inner danseur noble, right? 😉
For this particular time warp, I went a bit vintage myself, you know, embracing the classic style. I found myself a perfect 1964-inspired outfit – it was the very model of a fashionable dance lover. Think elegance, and just the right hint of a bit of bold! The longline silk top I found, it just swirled so beautifully! Oh, and the gloves - white with tiny little bows – just divine, Darling. Then I found this perfectly 1964's skirt to pair with it! This kind of swirling chiffon! You wouldn’t believe it! Just perfect with the ballet pumps! A must-have for any ballerina-at-heart, or even just those with a keen eye for elegance. I found myself feeling completely ready to mingle with the ballet world.
Fashion Notes! 💅 Now, 1964, like many decades, had a real obsession with the 'silhouette,' something that's often forgotten. Back in those days, when it came to the ballet, things weren't as stretchy and free-flowing as they are today! (Let's face it, leggings make the modern ballet world! Not always for dancing, but it makes everything easier for fashion-focused travel!)
You had your dresses – flowing with a flair for drama. A touch of femininity for the fashion world. The styles, even if they seemed a little more restrictive (no tights for you, in these days!), were still about looking elegant and feminine. Imagine, we have to wear the actual tights under these kinds of dresses today!
But it was an exciting time for the world of the ballet itself, 1964. The Royal Ballet were taking over the dance scene. Their work captured everyone's imagination - it felt like the epitome of elegant fashion in a way, didn’t it? Oh, I even had a ticket to see "The Nutcracker" at the Royal Opera House. The perfect ballet to see, what a stunning show! I mean, all that gorgeous fashion and then of course those wonderful little dancers doing what they do best! They were such stars, tiny stars. It felt like seeing a whole host of elegant tiny ballerinas with tutus. It’s no surprise they have been copying us for all this time! (Yes, I'm a pink tutu wearing dancer! But in a polite and nice kind of way!).
The best thing was that everyone looked so fabulous at the show - it just gave me that extra bit of ballet inspiration that everyone needs from time to time! After all, I believe every day is a #TutuTuesday, even in 1964! But let’s be honest, that day I wasn’t just living for the stage, oh no, it was also the shop windows! Those outfits! Imagine all that gorgeous fabric and detail! Just beautiful, absolutely perfect for any elegant, graceful, ballerina like me!
So, next time you’re feeling a little ballet inspired, do remember what made this magical decade special – its flair, its dedication to elegant styles, and, of course, that unmistakable air of grace.
And now… on a personal note! I was going to stop there but this one time... I want you to follow me in pink, ok? I want everyone to join my “pink tutu movement”. You’re probably wearing a tutu right now - go and look! If you need help with the fashion styling just email
Until next time, happy dancing, and remember: the best kind of dance is always one where you feel absolutely comfortable in your own stylish skin!
