Tutu Tuesday: A Blast From the Past - #6934! 🩰
Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, ready to whisk you back in time to another dazzling #TutuTuesday!
This week, we’re taking a little trip back to the 17th November 1964, a date steeped in both historical significance and, of course, all things ballet.
My time travel outfit today? You guessed it – a glorious, blush-pink, swishy tutu! (Just because it’s the 60s, doesn’t mean we have to compromise on style, right? 😉) I’m sporting a simple white leotard underneath, my hair up in a neat ballerina bun (just like the lovely dancers who would be captivating audiences at this very moment!) and my signature pair of sparkling ballet pumps, adding that extra touch of glitz.
Now, before I set off to witness the balletic wonders of 1964, let me tell you a little about this extraordinary year:
The world was gripped by the Beatles! Imagine, if you will, the streets pulsating with the melodies of ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ and the whole globe caught in the whirlwind of Beatlemania! It was a time of change, excitement, and – dare I say – a tad bit of rebellion!
This was also the year of the London World's Fair, a glittering event celebrating technology, science, and progress! What’s better than a magnificent ballet performance and then a whirl through a futuristic exhibition?
And wouldn’t you know it, a mere two weeks later the iconic Royal Ballet would be presenting “Giselle”, the timeless romantic ballet set in a mythical kingdom of fairies and village girls. Can you imagine, watching the intricate steps, the dramatic story unfolding before your very eyes? Simply heavenly!
But back to our present – or rather, past! 😉 Now, here in this wondrous world of the mid-60s, ballet was truly flourishing. I’m thinking of course, of Margot Fonteyn – the legendary ballerina who mesmerised audiences with her graceful movements. I simply adore the classic ballerina styles of this era – those beautiful long lines, elegant hand gestures and, of course, the sheer brilliance of their talent. They were the epitome of grace and elegance – just as we aspire to be!
Of course, ballet wasn’t the only thing that caught my attention back then. The 60s fashion scene was in a constant state of change and, let me tell you, I loved the youthful, vibrant looks – think mini-skirts, go-go boots and all things colourful! And yes, you guessed it - pink tutus played a part in the era too – they even popped up on the catwalks in some daring interpretations!
Speaking of pink tutus, why don't you get yours out and wear it with pride today? This #TutuTuesday is a perfect occasion to twirl, dance, and celebrate the magical world of ballet! Don’t forget to post a photo on social media – I’ll be eagerly following you, @pink-tutu.com – remember to use #TutuTuesday! And don’t forget to share your #TutuTuesday moments in the comments!
And before I bid you adieu, my lovely tutu enthusiasts, let me take you on a delightful train journey! That’s right, trains, my dears! A perfect means of transportation for a vintage ballerina - just imagine the grand halls and the wonderful view from the carriage window as we journey through the countryside to the nearest theatre or ballet school. Train travel simply oozes charm and sophistication, wouldn’t you agree? 😉
So there you have it, my lovelies! Another whirlwind trip into the past. Remember, a little sprinkle of tutus and a touch of vintage glamour never hurts – especially when it’s #TutuTuesday.
See you next Tuesday, with another ballet-filled blog post! Until then, keep dancing! 💖
Lots of love,
Emma xoxo
