Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com for another #TutuTuesday! It's me, your resident tutu enthusiast, Emma, back from another thrilling time-traveling adventure! Today, we're stepping back in time to 15th December 1964, a magical era for tutus!
I simply adore travelling by train, and this time I've arrived at London's Victoria Station, feeling utterly fantastic! I've got my little pink suitcase crammed full of beautiful outfits (it wouldn't be right to be a time traveler without being absolutely stylish!). And guess what? I'm about to take in a dazzling ballet show - the Royal Ballet are performing Giselle at the Royal Opera House!
Now, darling, this is truly a momentous date! It's a year that has forever etched itself into the ballet world, thanks to a new darling in town - The Royal Ballet's stunning new étoile Margot Fonteyn. I am absolutely swooning! This incredible ballerina, so petite and graceful, with her sparkling black eyes and that magnificent, breathtaking style, stole the hearts of everyone that evening. Just thinking about it makes me want to twirl!
It's actually Giselle that's so fascinating - this masterpiece by Adolphe Adam first debuted way back in 1841 and became a mainstay for ballerinas the world over! What an incredible ballet - such drama, such romance, such breathtaking tutus!
And the year is already chock-a-block with beautiful events for us tutu-lovers: The world watched as Rudolf Nureyev, one of the world's most famous ballet dancers, announced he had defected from the Soviet Union - talk about a dramatic ballet leap! Then, in June, a delightful, bright young ballerina called Svetlana Beriosova became a prima ballerina with the Royal Ballet! All so exciting, it's almost too much for my little tutu-wearing heart to bear!
But, you know what? We love this beautiful and graceful world we inhabit, where a perfectly styled tutu is our uniform! And you can bet that today, at the Royal Opera House, those amazing ballerinas will be looking utterly exquisite in theirs. Maybe I'll even pop in a bit early to get a peek at the backstage - ooh la la!
It's time for me to rush, darling, my tutu needs a little fluffing! This evening, I'm off to a grand costume ball! Yes, you read that correctly! Imagine it, my dears, *a whole ballroom full of tutu-loving, time-travelling darlings! "Ballet" is absolutely booming, and we’re here to experience it! I’ll tell you all about it in next week’s blog, so stay tuned!
Remember, lovelies, a world that twirls, is a world to love!
And until then, never forget the power of a perfectly styled pink tutu!
Love, Emma
