#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 12th January 1965

Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, my darlings! It's your favourite #TutuTuesday, and I'm just brimming with excitement about our trip back in time. Today, we're waltzing our way to the 12th of January, 1965, just a hop, skip and a pirouette away from the swinging '60s. This blog post is number 6942, a beautiful number for a lovely blog about lovely tutus.

Oh, I just adore the 1960s! Everything about it was so fabulous. I can just imagine myself swirling in a bright pink tutu, swinging my handbag adorned with beads, my hair in a perfectly messy beehive. Imagine how wonderful it would be to hop off the train (first class, naturally!) and into a London theatre, the smell of the old seats and the hushed anticipation in the air as the lights dim. And to think, we get to experience it all - without the worry of a time-travel paradox! Chuckles softly

Speaking of London, today's spotlight falls on a theatrical gem: The Royal Ballet - a real force in the world of ballet! It's not just any theatre show, though. Today, at the Royal Opera House, they're showcasing the enchanting 'Giselle'! This hauntingly beautiful ballet is the perfect example of how storytelling and elegance can be entwined in such an amazing way. And of course, with Giselle being a delicate fairy tale, tutus are at the heart of the performance - light, flowing, and absolutely captivating!

Now, let's rewind the clock a bit, back to the origins of the tutu - those iconic costumes we associate so strongly with ballerinas. You might be surprised to hear, dear readers, that they haven't always been these wispy, feminine creations! Way back when, they were actually long, bell-shaped skirts! Gasps dramatically Imagine, the cumbersome beauty! Luckily for us, the tutu has had quite the glamorous makeover over the years. By the 18th century, ballerinas began shedding those bulky layers and opting for lighter, shorter versions - allowing for greater freedom and, well, twirling power!

By the early 20th century, the tutu had transformed completely! Think fluffy layers, frills galore, and that signature look that everyone recognizes! I think we owe a big thanks to those early 20th-century dancers and designers! They gave us those ethereal tutus, the symbol of dance and elegance we love today! We owe them a standing ovation!

The amazing thing about ballet, and especially its fashion, is that it never stays static. Designers and choreographers are constantly experimenting, refining, and re-imagining the tutu. Think romantic styles for Sleeping Beauty with long tutus, and then contrasting it with the slightly edgy but glamorous designs for Don Quixote. We have such an amazing variety to be inspired by, and it's wonderful to watch the ballet world evolving with such a timeless look as the tutu.

The history of the tutu is full of interesting turns and twirls. Remember, though, that tutus are far from just the realm of the stage! Tutus are our fashion heroes! It's time for the tutus to take over the world, darling! We're breaking down those barriers! It doesn't matter your age, shape, size, or occasion, a tutu will always make you feel fabulous and graceful. Swirls playfully It's time to channel our inner ballerinas, ladies. And fellas, I'm not saying it's out of the question to put on a pink tutu either!

Let me know in the comments if you are joining in with the pink tutu movement! Where are you planning to wear your tutu this week? I might be spotted on the streets of Derbyshire, in a fabulous pink tutu with my trusty ballet shoes and, of course, my favourite polka dot umbrella for those inevitable Derbyshire downpours. Winks

But for now, darling readers, keep your chin up, stay twirling, and remember, even though our world is full of challenges, remember to live a life that makes you smile and embrace your own unique brand of fashion magic! Remember: I believe in you!

Love always, Emma xx
