#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History: 1965-10-12
Hello lovelies!
It’s Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing time travelling ballerina! This week on #TutuTuesday we're whisking ourselves back to 12th October 1965. Buckle up, because today's a right royal adventure!
Firstly, let’s address the pink tutu elephant in the room - why do I keep coming back to the same time period for these blog posts? Well, let's just say that the late 1950s and 1960s saw a boom in tutu-wearing, especially on stage! Think "The Sleeping Beauty", "Giselle", and so many more classical ballets that captured the hearts (and eyes!) of the world.
Now, you know I'm a huge fan of train journeys, so today we're boarding the Orient Express for a little ballet trip to Paris! This is the place to be for ballet at this moment in time, you know. The city is bursting with exciting new shows, and the Ballets Russes have really made a name for themselves here.
So, what's happening on this very date?
Well, I wouldn't want to give too much away, because I love a good mystery as much as a fabulous pink tutu. But let’s just say, there’s a new ballet company making their debut in the heart of Paris. Ooh la la! You wouldn't believe the excitement in the air. And rumour has it they've got a new twist on the tutu, but more on that later!
Just think about it, Paris 1965! It’s all glamour, romance and ballet, just my kinda scene. I can imagine myself sipping a cafe au lait in a quaint little café on the Champs-Elysees, then heading straight to the ballet, resplendent in my pinkest tutu of course! And just imagine those dresses – think elegant lines, flowy fabrics, a touch of sequins - divine!
Speaking of tutus, remember our little mystery? Well, rumour has it that this new company is putting a modern spin on the classic ballet look, using some daring new tutu shapes. Could this be the start of a revolution in tutu design? I for one can’t wait to see how they’re styled!
And what's more, if you fancy heading out for a slightly more avant-garde affair, the "Grands Ballets Canadiens" are holding a workshop this very day - and who knows, maybe they’re thinking of *modernising the tutu too! * Oh the excitement!
The world of ballet in 1965 is brimming with energy and inspiration. I have a feeling we're going to see some truly beautiful and exciting ballet trends take shape in the coming years!
And remember loves, the magic of ballet never goes out of style. So why not pop on a pink tutu and dance around your own living room? And don’t forget to post your pics on social media! After all, we all have our own inner ballerina just waiting to be unleashed!
Keep shining,
Emma xx
PS: Stay tuned for the next #TutuTuesday post. I’ve got some amazing vintage finds and fascinating facts up my sleeve - it’s going to be simply divine!
