Tutu Tuesday: #7044 - The Twirling Sixties: Where Fashion Meets Form!
Hey my fellow tutu lovers! Emma here, back for another fabulous #TutuTuesday with a new adventure in the fabulous world of tutu history. This week, I’ve hopped on a train and travelled back to December 27th, 1966. Buckle up, darlings, we’re headed to the swinging sixties, a decade where style and grace reigned supreme!
It’s no secret that I adore the classic tutu – its fluffiness, its drama, the way it twirls around you, making you feel like you’re floating on air. Well, let me tell you, in 1966, the tutu was truly enjoying its moment in the spotlight! Think graceful lines, romantic fabrics, and an overall sense of femininity – everything we tutus stand for!
The ballet world in 1966 was alive and kicking, with performances taking place all over the world. From the grand stages of the Royal Opera House in London to the charming little theaters dotted around Derbyshire, the ballet was the place to be seen! In fact, I just had the most wonderful time at the Royal Ballet’s production of "Giselle." The tutus, oh, the tutus! They were the perfect combination of airy tulle and delicate floral detail, swirling around the ballerinas like whispered dreams. Talk about breathtaking!
And what's the best way to celebrate the beauty of the tutu? Well, with some seriously chic fashion, of course! This year's style scene is bursting with romantic inspiration. Just think delicate fabrics, bold prints, and those adorable little mini-skirts – everything perfect for making your own personal twirling statements.
I particularly love the look of the full-skirted dresses, they're just so feminine and oh-so-twirly! I also just spotted this amazing ensemble, a bold and bright top paired with wide-leg pants and a fabulous, wide-brimmed hat! Think about this darling, it’s like you're channelling the grace and confidence of a prima ballerina, and isn't that exactly what we all want?!
But enough about fashion! Let's get back to the heart of the matter, the tutus, the magnificent, swirling beauties of the ballet! This year, the ballet scene was also experiencing some real exciting innovation. New choreography was taking the stage, breaking traditional boundaries, and adding a whole new sense of dynamism to the classic dances. Imagine, modern steps with classic elegance! A tutu, no matter its style, truly accentuates these fluid and dynamic movements.
What's truly amazing is the tutu’s ability to transform the most ordinary outfit into a whimsical ensemble! Just imagine, darling, popping on a simple white t-shirt with a floaty pink skirt. Add a bit of sparkle, some fun hair accessories, and top it off with a whimsical tutu - presto! Instant tutu transformation!
Of course, my favourite thing about this era is that ballet has made its way out of the theater and onto the streets! This weekend, I saw the most delightful little troupe performing a playful ballet routine right on Piccadilly Circus. I swear, darling, it had me twirling on the spot! It was delightful to see ballet break out of the traditional confines, and be enjoyed by everyone. And what a wonderful message for our world! Let the tutu take flight!
I also love the way the 1960s is showcasing a bolder take on colour and pattern. This is fantastic for us tutu-lovers! This means bolder colours in the fabrics used for tutus! I found some fabulous vibrant and beautiful pink hues - it really brings to mind a sense of youthful energy.
So darling, that’s all from me for this week. But remember, even if you’re not travelling through time, don’t forget to enjoy your own adventures!
Remember to share your #TutuTuesday outfits on social media. I can’t wait to see all your wonderful tutu creations. Happy twirling!
Stay fabulous and always wear a tutu!
Yours always,
Emma
