#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time! - February 7th 1967! (Post #7050)
Hello my darling dancers! It's Emma here, back from another whirl through the world of ballet history for your weekly #TutuTuesday treat. Today we're hopping aboard a steam train and heading back to 7th February 1967, where tutus were twirling in a world of fashion and fabulousness!
As always, I'm sporting my signature pink tutu. (Because darling, life's too short for dull dancewear!) And let me tell you, the colour pink was very much en vogue in 1967! We're talking bright, beautiful shades, perfect for a ballerina with a love for all things pretty.
What was on the ballet stage in February 1967?
Well, darling, this month we have a truly fabulous show coming to London’s Covent Garden. The Royal Ballet is presenting The Sleeping Beauty and it is absolutely breathtaking. Imagine this, a grand production featuring the amazing Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev! They’re both on fire in this production, the choreography is intricate, the costumes are beautiful and the music from Tchaikovsky is just divine.
I just know you’re all going to want to grab your tickets right now, but that brings me to my next point - tickets were selling out fast back then, and were oh-so-expensive. I am lucky to have a friend working in the box office! I couldn’t possibly be here to share my adventures without the very best view!
Tutu Twists and Turns: A Peek into Fashion!
While we're on the topic of fashion, 1967 saw the rise of mini skirts and Mary Quant's incredible contributions to modern style. (She's practically the queen of the mod scene!) We’re talking about fun, vibrant colours, geometric patterns, bold and playful designs. And yes, it was very much influenced by the ballet world. That's why it was so important to have a tutu in your wardrobe back then!
There's a real love of bright colours, bold accessories and striking contrasts, very much reflecting the optimism of the era! The mini-skirt with a pink ballerina-inspired tulle overlay – darling, how absolutely stylish! My trip to London’s Harrods saw a fantastic showcase of these tutus, made from silk and nylon, perfectly embodying this timeless combination.
Time Travel Tips: Travelling to the 1960s on a Train!
So, how did I get here? The London to Derby train journey is fantastic! The countryside whizzing by is oh so scenic, it truly takes me back in time, making it an ideal time to reflect upon my travel and indulge in a little journaling. My notepad, which is tucked carefully into my handbag (filled with essential ballet items!), is already overflowing with stories to tell about 1967 and all of its fashion delights.
Don't forget, I can’t do all of this without my ballet performance earnings! (Did I mention how much I adore performing for you all?) My latest dance show for the Royal Ballet (a lovely mix of classical ballet and more modern dance steps!) was just incredible. The audience loved it and I know I’ve collected enough money to see me through to my next trip! You know, darling, I can’t always share the specifics of my adventures. The ballet world has many secrets and we must always keep the integrity of the craft at the forefront.
Final Thoughts: Keep Those TutUs Twirling!
That's all for this week, darling dancers! I'm already excited to get started on my next #TutuTuesday blog. As always, please remember: wear a pink tutu every single day. Even when you’re not performing. There are no rules in fashion and it will help to boost those endorphins and help you make your inner ballerina feel fabulous.
