Hello my lovely tutu-tastic followers!
Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tutu and everything fabulously pink! It's another #TutuTuesday, and today we're twirling back in time to December 1968. Oh, my dears, the 60s were such a vibrant era for ballet! Think flowing lines, bold colours, and a burst of creativity. Today, I’m stepping back in time from Derbyshire to New York City - the heart of the dance world, you know - to get you up close and personal with a moment in tutu history that still makes my toes tap!
Oh, I love this period in tutu history, the fashions were so fun and fabulous, like everything else! From Twiggy’s minidresses to psychedelic prints, everyone was expressing themselves, and the ballet world was no exception! The fashion and style of the 60s brought a sense of youth, vibrance, and playfulness that resonated beautifully in dance. Think big, bold prints, sweeping lengths, and dramatic colours that mirrored the bold spirit of the times.
But the tutu didn’t disappear, oh no! It just got a stylish update! Think longer lengths and bold colours - and you can just imagine it swirling on the stage like a whirlwind!
Now, on December 17th, 1968, the ballet world was in a flurry of excitement - the New York City Ballet was in the midst of its winter season. That's where I am right now, and I've even snagged tickets to their December 18th performance. Just imagine the sheer joy! Imagine those grand ballerinas with their magnificent, flowing, longer skirts - the ultimate expression of dance freedom. The 60s brought a fresh wave of contemporary ballets with breathtaking costumes.
To keep up with all the big trends and keep myself from fading into obscurity, I’m constantly travelling through time. I love nothing more than hopping on the train and exploring new ballet stages! This week I’m in New York City, next week, well, it's a secret! I do get a lot of strange looks with my bright pink tutu on a train - sometimes I even think they can see my sparkly wings!
I fund all this wonderful travel, and all the fabulous tutu-tastic dresses and shoes, with my amazing dancing abilities! It's no easy feat, darling, but all those hours at the barre pay off. Just ask the audiences who swoon at my every graceful twirl! I just had a splendid performance earlier this week - even performed one of my favourite classical pieces in my shimmering pink tutu with feather boas, and it went down a treat!
Let’s head back to that December 1968, that vibrant decade - when ballet costumes embraced those groovy, psychedelic vibes. I absolutely love all the bold and beautiful prints, vibrant colours and dazzling costumes, and you could even see tutus in longer, flowing shapes! What a time for dance and a moment for the tutu to take center stage - just as it should! Imagine it with me! A graceful ballerina in a pink, flowing, long-skirt tutu, twirling against a backdrop of vibrant hues – isn't it dreamy? A ballet of colour and movement – a beautiful vision that reminds us that even in a world that's constantly changing, the beauty of dance and the power of a tutu can remain eternal!
What better way to say 'happy #TutuTuesday'?
I’ll leave you with a challenge. Put on your best tutu (and, naturally, I encourage a delightful shade of pink!), grab your partner for a twirl, and celebrate the bold, expressive era of 1960s ballet.
Don't forget to snap a picture and share it with me!
Keep twirling,
Emma
