#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History – A Whirlwind Back to 1968! 🩰💖

Hello darlings, and welcome back to your weekly dose of tutu history on www.pink-tutu.com! It's #TutuTuesday, and I'm your resident tutu enthusiast, Emma, straight from the heart of Derbyshire! Today, we're jetting back in time to the fabulous year of 1968 – oh, the fashion! The music! And of course, the stunning ballet! This is post number 7148 – let’s get twirling!

So, 1968… What's happening in the world of ballet on December 24th? Well, for starters, we’ve got a Christmas Eve! Can you imagine how magical the Christmas ballet performances must be? There would be a sprinkle of twinkling lights, the smell of mince pies and perhaps even a little snowfall outside the theatre, making it absolutely delightful.

The Big Ballet News of 1968:

This year in ballet, the focus was all about a delightful little number called "Giselle." It was all the rage in Paris! And of course, no discussion of tutus in 1968 would be complete without acknowledging the amazing Margot Fonteyn. Her artistry was truly mesmerising – she could turn a simple tulle into something so graceful! The fashionistas were loving it!

Speaking of Paris… Imagine me whisked away on the Orient Express to Paris! Just picture it – I’m sat next to a charming gentleman in my favourite pink tutu, maybe a little tweed jacket, sipping on some delicious champagne, watching the scenery whizz past. Such glamour! I’d imagine I’d stop in London first for some window shopping. It would be a perfect chance to peek at the newest designs, see which designers are taking their inspiration from the world of ballet, and find the perfect pink tutu to add to my collection! I simply can't resist a new tutu – they’re like a piece of magic.

But back to the ballet! There's something truly magical about seeing a ballerina glide across the stage in her tutu. The way the light catches the delicate layers of tulle… the ethereal movements… it's just breathtaking! In 1968, tutus were starting to get a little more playful and fun, a bit like my own personal style! We were seeing the beginnings of the experimental and colourful dance looks. Imagine, my dear readers, how exhilarating this must have been!

Finding your perfect tutu:

Let’s imagine, for a moment, that you, dear reader, are a ballerina in 1968. Where would you go to find your perfect tutu? Why, there would only be one place! That's right, the grand shop on Rue de la Paix, tucked away in a quiet corner. Its windows would be filled with delicate ballet shoes and exquisite fabrics, all waiting to be turned into beautiful tutus! The scent of freshly pressed tulle would be enough to send you into a dancing frenzy! Oh, wouldn’t it be amazing to spend an afternoon amongst the racks of fabric and lace, designing the perfect tutu with your seamstress? Perhaps even a beautiful pink tutu just for me, hmm?

A Pink Tutu Christmas:

It's not too late to channel that 1968 sparkle this Christmas. Maybe swap a traditional Christmas tree for a fluffy pink tutu instead – how elegant! And instead of hanging tinsel, maybe you can fashion a few ballerina bows! Go ahead, add a bit of pink sparkle to your holidays and celebrate with a graceful Christmas dance!

My wish for you:

Now, I'm a true believer that a little bit of pink tutu magic can brighten anyone's day, so I encourage you all to get out there and twirl! Embrace the beauty of dance, and let your inner ballerina shine. Who knows? You might even inspire the next generation of tutu enthusiasts, spreading a little bit of pink joy all around!

Until next week, keep on twirling, my loves! And be sure to share your pink tutu adventures with me on Instagram @PinkTutuEmma!

With love and twirls,

Emma www.pink-tutu.com
