Tutu Tuesday #7156: A Twirl Through Time!

Hello, lovelies! Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, back with another #TutuTuesday dive into the enchanting history of our beloved garment. Today, we're taking a trip on the time machine - literally! - to 18th February 1969. Buckle up, darlings, it's gonna be a whirl!

Now, 1969… a year synonymous with change, with moon landings, with peace and love vibes. The fashion scene was electric, bursting with vibrant colours and bold silhouettes. But let's face it, there's nothing more electrifying than a perfectly twirled pink tutu, wouldn't you agree?

As always, my journey back in time is sponsored by the wonders of ballet. Tonight, I'm at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, gazing upon the elegance of Swan Lake - pure magic! This iconic theatre, steeped in history, is the perfect setting for a historical peek-a-boo. And speaking of peek-a-boo… did you know the earliest forms of tutus were very, very revealing? Imagine dancing a pas de deux in a tights-only affair - shiver me timbers!

Fast forward to the late 19th century, and tutus finally began taking shape, becoming the breathtakingly beautiful, swirling pieces of art we know and love. From the iconic Romantic tutu, billowing and soft, to the more structured neoclassical style, it's an evolution that simply begs to be admired. And let's not forget about the rise of the " tutu-maker ".

Ah, a fabricatrice in 1969 would have been a true sorceress of the sewing machine. Creating a masterpiece in tulle is an art form, you see - layering, shaping, every stitch meticulously placed to create a piece that makes a ballerina soar.

Today, though, I'm in search of the perfect pink tutu, inspired by my favourite ballerina of all time, the incredible Margot Fonteyn. Imagine, she'd be waltzing in the very same theatre tonight, the elegance of her movements echoed through the history of the stage! I just have to find that pink dream…

Oh, speaking of 18th February 1969, that special day also marked a monumental event in ballet history. It was the first day the Bolshoi Ballet toured the United States, paving the way for ballet to reach a whole new generation!

After tonight's performance, I'll be shopping, darling! Maybe I'll find a beautiful pink silk scarf or an intricately beaded bag - anything that matches my pink tulle dreams. I do have to pick up my favourite choux à la crème, a Russian tradition to celebrate a beautiful evening at the Bolshoi, you see!

But here’s a little fashion tip: In the year 1969, everything was all about colour, darlings! Vibrant pinks, rich reds, blues so bright they could rival the sky – don’t be afraid to express yourself through colour. Maybe embrace that colour even in your everyday wear - imagine, walking down the street in a fluffy, pink tutu with your matching pink coat! Why wait for the ballet studio, eh? Spread the tutus! And don't forget to keep an eye on www.pink-tutu.com next Tuesday for another history escapade - it'll be delectable. Until then, keep dancing and be kind to your fellow ballerinas!

Stay sparkly! Emma xoxo
