Tutu Tuesday #7235: A Blast from the Past! (And by 'Blast', I Mean Ballet!) 🩰
Hello lovelies, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! It’s Tutu Tuesday, which means it's time for a dive into the enchanting history of our favourite fluffy friends – tutus! As you know, my mission is to spread the joy and wonder of ballet tutus across the globe, and to share the incredible history of this sartorial icon. Today, I'm taking us back to August 25th, 1970 – fancy a little trip on the Orient Express with me? 🚄
Imagine yourself stepping onto the train platform in Paris, the air abuzz with the sound of excited chatter and the gentle whirring of luggage being loaded. It's the height of summer, the city practically humming with Parisian chic, and everyone's on their way to…well, you wouldn't be far wrong to guess it was a performance, darling. Ballet is flourishing in France at this moment, it's everywhere! It's as popular as… well, a pink tutu in a room full of princesses! 👑
I can see a young woman walking confidently towards the train carriage, carrying a beautifully embroidered tote bag overflowing with dance books and… did I spot a little sketch pad? Could she be on her way to see a show? I just adore these charming little touches of backstage magic. 😍
1970 is such a magical year for ballet – the legacy of the "Ballets Russes" is still a huge influence. Dancers like Margot Fonteyn are on the stage of the world, and Rudolf Nureyev, with his charismatic and athletic style, has completely captivated audiences. There is so much happening, from London to New York, it is truly a global moment for ballet and with it, our beloved tutu!
But don't just take my word for it, dear readers! On August 25th, 1970, the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow took to the stage of the Covent Garden Opera House in London, dazzling audiences with their powerful performance of Swan Lake. Can you imagine? The majestic swan lake choreography, the delicate tulle of the ballerina's costume, and the sheer grace and athleticism of these performers... It’s no wonder they're a world sensation! 🩰
As I sit here, wearing my new powder-pink tutu with its subtle ruffled detailing, I feel that wonderful feeling of nostalgia! It’s like I can see it, smell it, hear it! And it inspires me so much! It’s so exciting to see just how much of an influence this particular era in dance had. These ballets are being performed right now around the globe!
Now, this journey back in time has inspired me! You simply must get ready for our next ballet performance. So, on that note, let's talk fashion, my dear readers!
While tutus themselves were not necessarily new at this time, ballet dancers were experimenting with new fabrics and embellishments. Did you know, for example, that a great deal of tulle used in ballet costumes was made from silk during this era? I imagine a flurry of soft fabric flowing through the air like gossamer clouds, creating a ballet performance as light as a feather. It truly would be a spectacle to see! And imagine the glittering sequin designs… so elegant!
For our next tutu Tuesday adventure, I shall show you some amazing pieces I found in the vintage fashion shop yesterday! I think I might just need a trip back in time again… 😜 You might need a wardrobe update for our next journey to 1984!
Until next week, dearest readers, I bid you adieu, and wish you many joyous hours spent with the magic of the dance! Don't forget to grab your own beautiful pink tutu, because wearing one truly helps you fly into that feeling of elegance and wonder. 😉
