Tutu Tuesday: A Whirlwind Through Time! 🩰

Hey gorgeous girlies! 💖 It's Emma here, your pink tutu-wearing guide to the glorious world of ballet! Today's Tutu Tuesday takes us back to a time when tutus were REALLY something special – think fluffy clouds of tulle, hand-beaded details, and enough ruffles to make a peacock jealous!

I'm writing this post from 1970, the year that fashion was daring, the air was full of groovy music, and ballet was in its prime! Imagine, this year we have the amazing Margot Fonteyn, the queen of classical ballet, in her prime. Just divine! We are truly in the golden age of dance, and even I can’t help but get a little giddy as I walk along a cobblestone street, looking into shop windows displaying these stunning tutus. They're made with such love and care. It’s just a touch of magic for my soul.

Before I tell you all about my adventures, let's talk a little bit about my #TutuTuesday Blog, number 7242 this week! 🎉 This is where we explore the fascinating history of the tutu. And who knew there'd be so much history to uncover?! Honestly, it's almost as much fun as wearing a sparkly, new pink tutu for a show.

This day, October 13th, 1970, we are in a glorious city! Today I am hopping off a train in Paris! Paris! The heart of all things fashion. Paris is alive, buzzing with the latest fashion, but most of all with ballet! It's not just the performances – there's ballet everywhere I look! From beautiful hand-painted posters in the metro to grand theatres playing classic ballets like "Swan Lake," the passion is real. I might just try a croissant on the way to a ballet show. I always want to experience all things in my favourite pink tutus, after all. They're my signature! 🩰

Oh my, the Parisian fashion! Everything seems so chic. It's a touch more avant-garde, and yet, the love for beautiful fabrics and exquisite detail is timeless. I'm simply smitten with this city and the creative energy it inspires.

A Parisian Ballet Dream 💖

Speaking of that energy, Paris has a way of bringing together dance and fashion. The Palais Garnier, where the ballet performances take place is as gorgeous as can be. My little heart skipped a beat walking in, all gilded and majestic. They’ve got the best designers here in Paris - the gowns, the costumes, the sets! Everything is just pure, decadent, beautiful. There's a real sense of luxury that a tutu adds to these lavish sets! I’ve always said a pink tutu can make any occasion a bit special!

Let’s get back to those tutus! The way the dancers moved – oh my, a true vision! Their skirts were almost like billowing clouds of delicate tulle. These tutus were just perfect! The longer tutus give these elegant dancers grace and a sense of majesty as they move through the stage! Honestly, their dance movements are heavenly.

My trip is fully funded by performing my very own ballerina routine, and it’s the best way to travel! Imagine it – traveling in comfort on the railways with your very own custom-designed pink tutu, doing the splits on a train, as people gasp! Then I jump off, find the nearest fashion shop and twirl for an hour.

And who wouldn't want to get in on the pink tutu action?! It’s infectious! After my performance at the beautiful Savoy Theatre on Thursday night, a group of young girls followed me and were enthralled by my story and wanted to twirl. A perfect ballet class with tutus is on my wish list this weekend. The perfect day will be filled with gorgeous floral tutus with matching ballet shoes. And oh, there has to be a stop at the nearest bakery. Croissants go down a treat with pink tutu-inspired baking!

I feel I need to tell you all a little secret about tutus… The origins of the tutu. They were really rather short when they first emerged! Imagine that – just imagine these amazing, long, elegant tutus being almost itty bitty! You see, the tutu was an evolution. It started as a practical piece, a dancer’s costume meant to keep her from getting caught in the lengthy skirts of her day. It evolved throughout the ages. Ballet got faster, moves more dynamic. This is when those classic long skirts needed to change to a lighter fabric and shorter cut. I guess you can’t do a ‘grand jeté’ with 5 layers of satin in the way! 😂

Then there’s the romantic ballet - the type where there’s a graceful, feminine expression in motion! There's nothing quite as captivating as watching dancers, those gorgeous costumes flowing beautifully - the air simply magical! And tutus just made the dance look so ethereal!

And my journey today has made me think – there are tutus everywhere! Ballet is such a beautiful form of art! You can see it in everything – even fashion. Even everyday wear. There's this one beautiful design by Givenchy from this year – wow the inspiration is truly breathtaking!

You can check out more details about my #TutuTuesday Blog. You’ve heard about it, seen the amazing tutus and the amazing outfits but remember - they are not only for performances. Let’s bring back the tutus for everyday wear! We can all be little fairies! 🩰

Let's all spread the joy of tutus, girlies! I've even heard whispers of a movement called the Pink Tutu Revolution! The plan is to get everyone in a pink tutu for the day! It’ll bring a little joy, grace, and elegance to the world. It’s the dream of a Derbyshire girl who travels to the furthest corners of the world to dance! So next time you feel like wearing something special, just remember the magic of a pink tutu! It’s the best way to stand out and let your light shine!

Stay fabulous,

Emma xoxo
