Tutu Tuesday: #7241 - The Rise of the Ballerina!

*1970-10-06 - * Well hello there, my lovely tutu-lovers! Welcome back to another edition of Tutu Tuesday here at Pink-Tutu.com. It's a chilly morning here in London but the weather can't dampen my excitement! You see, today marks a very important day for ballet - 1970-10-06! Get ready, darling, because we are stepping back in time... all the way to the Twentieth Century to explore the blossoming brilliance of the ballet tutu!

Ballet Tutu History... Back to 1970

Now, the year 1970 - can you imagine?. No wifi, no iPhones, no Uber! (Though, there was that cool thing called 'dial up', a glorious thing!) But you know what did exist? Ballet! And believe me, my fellow tutu fans, ballet was all the rage. The air vibrated with music and every step echoed the sheer artistry of some of the greatest ballerinas in history!

I, of course, took my personal time-traveling, pink tutu-wearing self back to the London Royal Opera House. Oh, I did love the ornate grandeur! I waltzed amongst the fashionable set, my trusty little pink tutu twinkling as brightly as the crystal chandeliers!

I snuck a peak into rehearsals and spotted these marvellous, magnificent ladies. Think names like Dame Margot Fonteyn and Natalia Makarova, now there were women who could really move! They swirled in their elegant tutus, the very picture of feminine grace and elegance. You see, back then, the tutu wasn't just a dress - it was a statement. A powerful statement of grace, strength, and artistry.

The Tutu: The Fashion Star of the Show!

It wasn't just on stage the tutu reigned supreme. The pink, pink, PINK tutu (yes, darling, there were pink tutus even back then!) it was making waves in fashion circles! The iconic Giselle tutu, made of layers and layers of delicate tulle, was the darling of the designers. Everyone was mimicking its ethereal beauty – and the tutu's grace was gracing fashion spreads, red carpets - it was practically a global sensation!

Can you imagine, dear reader? Your everyday Londoner, rocking a pastel-hued tutu, a playful dash of ballet's beauty woven into everyday life? Talk about a dream come true!

The Tutu’s Rise to Everyday Glamour

Now, for this week I must tell you, I made a splash at Covent Garden, my tutu in a gorgeous shade of raspberry sorbet. I spotted two other ballerinas adorning the perfect tutus - one, dazzling in cerulean, the other a striking coral, Oh, divine! I must admit, my heart nearly skipped a beat, they just looked so lovely!

So many people wearing tutus! A sign of the times, perhaps. Fashion in 1970 was about expressing yourself, being bold, being different... and the tutu just perfectly encapsulated all of those emotions.

But I didn’t only stick to opera or ballrooms for my Tutu adventures this week, you see, dear reader, I had the pleasure of seeing the London Symphony Orchestra performing at The Barbican! The most extravagant event - there were hundreds, hundreds of musicians - all decked out in formal wear, oh my what a glorious occasion!

There was this absolutely wonderful, bright pink tutu fluttering about near me, on this gorgeous woman, she looked just like a ballerina! You see, she'd added her personal touch of sparkle to a black sequin dress, and of course, it looked simply divine, she must've had an absolute blast!

Tutu Tips

Darling, the perfect tutu doesn't just appear overnight. Don’t just waltz into a shop and demand the first thing you see! We, tutu aficionados, are a bit more refined! My friends, you've got to know your tulle types, be it classic tulle, fluffy tulle or my personal fave: iridescent, shimmery fairy tulle.

For a true tutu-worthy day we gotta talk about layers! It's the secret sauce of a dazzling tutu experience. That multi-layered, fluffy goodness creates that magic that catches the light, and sets your soul swirling.

Finally, you’ve got to find a tutu just for you, a statement piece which, darling, it should be, but with you at its center! Now go forth and create your very own ballet magic!

See You Next Week

Darling, my travel plans for next week will include an escapade to the *West End! Imagine a week filled with glittering shows, glittering fashion, and oh-so-many fabulous tutus to catch my eye! Just don’t miss me next Tuesday, we’ve loads to talk about. Until then, you know the drill:

  • Wear a Tutu (preferably a pink one)!
  • Take a Dance Class (we all have that ballerina inside!)
  • Get Out and See a Ballet Performance (you won’t regret it!).

Ciao, and until next week... Let’s make the world a more tutu-ful place! 💖

P.S Remember to check out our online store! *You'll find loads of beautiful tutus in all colors - I dare say, the best collection this side of the English Channel!
