Tutu Tuesday: A Blast From The Past (1972, January 11th!) 🩰
Hello, darlings! Emma here, your very own time-traveling, tutu-adoring blogger, ready to whisk you back in time for another glorious #TutuTuesday! Today we’re jetting to a most fabulous year – 1972, the year of glam rock, disco fever, and… oh yes, the rise of the modern tutu! Can you believe it? We’re talking tutu history, but also history in general! How very exciting!
So, where are we whisking off to this week? Today’s destination? Oh, let’s say, New York City. As a true ballet fanatic, I’d be remiss not to take you to the New York City Ballet! This particular day, the ballet is presenting a wonderful program featuring The Four Seasons – how wonderful, is it not, that we’re linking our fashion to the glorious change of the seasons?
But we mustn’t forget the most important detail, of course… what about the tutues? Oh, honey, it’s the 70s! The fashion scene is all about boldness and dramatic flair, and guess what? Our ballet dancers aren’t lagging behind!
You might be thinking, Emma, what does a tutu even look like in 1972? Well, picture a dancer clad in a beautifully crafted tutu, maybe a romantic and floaty Romantic Tutu… But with a twist, darlings! It's the 70s, so bold colours and unexpected embellishments are making their entrance into the world of the tutu. I just love how fashion is forever in conversation with what is happening around us! Can you imagine, just think – a tutu can be a true fashion statement! Just you wait until I try it out for myself!
And darling, to get in the mood for a proper New York experience, we are making a special trip after the ballet! This is where my obsession with travel by train really kicks in! After all, New York’s subway is practically a fashion show on wheels, especially during rush hour, right? Imagine a pink tutu being whisked around the city on a train – oh, wouldn't that just be the most wonderful adventure? Then we’ll take a yellow cab for the pièce de résistance, that truly stylish taxi ride to a fabulous 70s boutique where the ultimate 70s pink tutu outfit is waiting for me – and for you too!
To think that it is all happening, a truly beautiful journey to the city, followed by a spectacular ballet, a subway ride, a fancy boutique. It's all just too amazing, really. My darling readers, what an exciting Tuesday!
By the way, have you ever noticed how magical trains can be? Don't get me wrong, darling, flying's glamorous too! But there’s something incredibly special about that gentle rhythm of a train journey - the landscape whisking by, the little villages and fields and maybe a distant town just becoming visible… All those scenes are a perfect inspiration for a new outfit! Or for a wonderful piece of ballet choreography – wouldn't that just be exquisite?
But before I drift off into too much of a dreamy state, let's not forget the vital reason for this Tutu Tuesday trip! The tutu. And of course, I am not just obsessed with the fashion – ballet performances themselves are something absolutely divine! Imagine being caught up in a world of art and passion, of movements as fluid as silk ribbons, the music swirling around you and the stories unfolding in the light.
Let’s face it, this is what truly inspired this journey in the first place, and my trips are fuelled by ballet, I have to admit! It’s like this – the dance floor (or the ballet stage, as it were) becomes the portal to the past – with a few magic tutu spins! A performance – or two – and it’s enough for a beautiful new tutu-laden trip to be a reality.
Well, darling, time is whizzing by! That means, as much as I wish we could chat for longer – time travel doesn’t come cheap, darling, and there’s a time-sensitive train timetable to stick to! And a pink tutu awaits, at the very fashionable boutique. Don’t forget, our website is waiting for you! And tell all your lovely friends! They need to experience this magical ballet world! I hope you’ve enjoyed a little blast to the past – you’ve got my #TutuTuesday on your to-do list now, yes? Now it’s back to the magic of a truly incredible past. A time when even the most ordinary tutu could be utterly chic. It’s time for me to dance on! Until next week! Don’t forget to subscribe and follow for your regular weekly #TutuTuesday, darling! You just won’t be able to miss out. You know it!
