Tutu Tuesday #7375: 1973 - The Year The Tutu Got Groovy!

Hello darlings, and welcome back to another #TutuTuesday! As a fellow devotee to all things tutu-licious, I'm so glad you're here, ready to embark on another journey through time with me!

Today, we're waltzing back to the groovy year of 1973! Just picture it, ladies: bell bottoms, platform shoes, and oh-so-much disco! This era was truly magical - a time when everyone was feeling fabulous, and what's more fabulous than a tutu, my dears?

Remember, this time travelling ballerina finds funding for her adventures through the wonderful world of ballet. This week, my grand performance at the Royal Opera House, a majestic celebration of Giselle, left me brimming with excitement. After the curtain call, I simply had to grab a quick cab (after a delightful glass of champagne, naturally!) to Paddington Station for my next exciting adventure: 1973.

The platform was bustling with anticipation - families going on holiday, businessmen with their briefcases, and me, shimmering in my delightful pink tutu (with matching pink feather boa for a touch of vintage chic!). The train pulled in, the carriage smelled of old leather and excitement.

Now, you're probably wondering what happened to the tutu during the fabulous seventies, aren't you? Well, let me tell you, the seventies were an incredible time for the tutu. It wasn't just relegated to the ballet stage; no, it had come alive in everyday life! Fashion was wild and daring, and everyone wanted a piece of the magic.

Think Taffeta, darling. This luxurious fabric took the tutu to new heights - from glamorous, shimmering evening gowns to casual skirts. I must admit, the "Taffeta" was a tad too much for my taste, but you can't deny that these tutus had swagger.

We can't forget the dance trends of 1973. The "Disco Hustle" and "The Locomotion" were the go-to dance moves, and what better attire to bust a move in than a glorious tutu? I envision ladies strutting across dance floors, their tutus twirling with every hip shake. A tutu can never go wrong with a bit of glitz, right? Especially on the dance floor!

Speaking of glam, did you know, darling, that May 1st, 1973 marked a particularly significant day? On this day, none other than The Rolling Stones (oh, my rock and roll soul!) released their album "Goats Head Soup"! Itโ€™s got all the rebellious energy of the decade and would sound sensational dancing in a tutu!

But enough about fashion and music. It's time for us to truly delve into the history part of this #TutuTuesday. You see, 1973 saw a major shift in the tutu world, especially with regards to ballet itself.

A revolution was brewing in the art world. Modern choreographers began to break free from the traditional tutu designs. Suddenly, different tutus started taking centre stage. The classic 'Romantic' style tutu, so long the norm in ballets like Giselle, was giving way to a whole new era.

These new tutus weren't just for ballerinas anymore! Think bolder colors, unique shapes, even layers upon layers of chiffon. It was an explosion of artistic expression and movement, a breath of fresh air in the world of ballet! It really captured the freedom and spirit of the times, much like a tutu can encapsulate the beauty of life's graceful moments.

You know, it reminds me of my little niece, she's a real whirlwind! She always says "Tutus are for everyone Emma". Well, she might be onto something. I bet it'd be fun to create our own modern tutu and celebrate the spirit of 1973 together! Imagine us on the train, giggling, twirling our handmade creations - wouldn't that be a hoot?

I love how the tutu keeps evolving. It truly reflects the pulse of the times, my darlings. And you know what else, I bet there's even a chance that those innovative designers back then are probably just the beginning of another big tutu wave happening now! It's exciting, isn't it?

Well, it's time for me to get back to my present, dear readers! Remember to spread the tutu love. Why not take a peek at your wardrobe, darling, and see if you can't find an old tutu hiding away? Maybe it needs a little dusting off, some pink ribbons, and maybe even a disco ball! After all, the magic of a tutu, the beauty and power of dance, that transcends time and trends.

Stay glamorous, stay fabulously tutu-ful and join me again next week, my darlings, for more of the fascinating history of the one and only, the divine, the fabulous - The Tutu.

Yours eternally in tulle,

Emma
