#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: July 17th 1973 - The Year of the Tutu Explosion! (Post #7386)
Hello, my lovely Tutu Tribe! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, back with another fabulous blast from the tutu archives. This week, we're time-hopping to 17th July 1973. You ready to go pink with me, darlings? Buckle up your tulle, because it's time to delve into some vintage tutu brilliance!
I can already hear you asking, "Why 1973, Emma?" Well, my dearest Tutu Tribe, it's all about that electrifying explosion of the tutu on the global stage! The world was in love with tutus. Seriously, darling! It was tutu heaven, and everyone wanted a piece of that magical, swirly, pink delight!
This year was, shall we say, "pretty pinkific," with tutus starring in countless ballet performances, iconic fashion moments and even sneaking into our homes via television. Remember "The Carol Burnett Show"? The star herself rocked some gloriously fluffy, whimsical tutus!
A Fashion Icon In A Pink Tutu - The Year of Rudolf Nureyev:
Let's rewind back to January, right? Imagine, darling, the Royal Opera House! It's glittering with grandeur and you've got this beautiful, breathtaking ballet dancer named Rudolf Nureyev, stepping onto the stage - and he's in a dazzling tutu! Now thatās iconic, right? Everyone from fashion editors to movie stars were obsessed. They called him āthe ballet God,ā and you know what, darling? He owned that title in his breathtaking pink tutu! His dance moves? Divine. His costume? Well, a testament to how much power a tutu held.
From Paris To Hollywood - Tutus Were Everywhere
The year was exploding with style! It wasn't just the dancers wearing tutus. Oh no, darlings, fashionistas and actresses all wanted a piece of the tulle action. Think Yves Saint Laurent and his creations? You got your haute couture tutus, fit for the most discerning of socialites. Think Audrey Hepburn? You got a stunning, delicate tulle gown designed by Givenchy. You name the name - Coco Chanel, Sophia Loren, even Barbra Streisand in a pink "Funny Girl" sequined tutu - these beautiful ladies all took tutus to a new level of sartorial magic. It was tutu-rific!
Oh, Darling, Don't Forget the Ballet:
The magic of ballet, you ask? Let's be real, darlings, it wouldnāt be a Tutu Tuesday blog post without a dash of ballet magic. The Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet... darling, you name the prestigious ballet company and they all were absolutely captivating audiences with their exquisite ballet stories! In "Giselle," the delicate tutus in white spun like snow fairies and for āSwan Lake,ā those swans, those glorious tutusā¦ sighs dreamily It's still the ballet classic that all the dancers dream to be part of, with all their feathery beauty!
*Where Were The Pink Tutus In July 1973? *
17th July 1973 was a Tuesday, you see, it's the perfect day for my #TutuTuesday! If we hopped back to this very day, itās possible you might have caught a new, exciting tutu moment - A Broadway ballet production perhaps. Maybe you could even be seated in a posh theatre auditorium right in the heart of New York City, soaking up the magic of a new ballet debut? Who knows?
Tutu Trends In My Time Traveling Wardrobe
Right, now you need a bit of Emma's advice on the trendiest tutu picks for July 1973!
First things first: A layered pink tutu in silk (with feathers and a hint of lace, wink wink*). Why not add some dazzling sparkle? Maybe some crystals, or rhinestonesā¦ Darling, we need a bit of glitter in our lives, don't you agree? And donāt forget that cute pink headband! We love a headband here at pink-tutu.com, you see!
Now let's move on to shoes: For 1973, we're keeping those ballet flats and sandals at the forefront. A dash of pink in every colourway? Why not! A tiny pink shoe or a sparkling little shoe? Yes please. You just cannot have too much pink!
Why All The Tutus?
Why were we so captivated by the tutu in 1973, my sweet Tutu Tribe? You know what? The world was moving faster. Life was happening - fast! But when you see the flowing, enchanting tulle in a ballet, it reminds you that it is okay to slow down, be in the moment and appreciate beauty! Weāve all been living in an extraordinary, colourful, fun world ā that was exactly what 1973ās tutu fascination embodied. You couldn't have found another trend that better captured that energy than the majestic ballet tutu!
