Tutu Tuesday: The 1970s - When Tutus Took a Tumble (But Didn't Break!) - #7387

Hey darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! It's your girl Emma here, and oh my, I've got another fabulous Tutu Tuesday lined up for you.

This week we're taking a little trip back to the glamorous 70s, a decade that gave us disco balls, bell bottoms, and...well, you guessed it, some pretty fabulous ballet tutus! I was whisked back to this decade by a rather magical railway journey, fuelled by my favourite brand of pink-tinted tea and, of course, my trusty tutu. Train travel, my loves, you know how much I adore a good railway adventure, and there's nothing more stylish than travelling in a billowing pink tutu! It’s all part of my plan to make the world a little more tutu-fied!

Speaking of travelling, this week is extra special. It's July 24th, 1973, a date packed with tutu-liciousness. Did you know that on this very day, the legendary ballerina Margot Fonteyn returned to the Royal Opera House after her famous and dramatic retirement just two years before? Talk about making a grand comeback!

I just had to experience this magical night. You can imagine, darlings, a room absolutely bursting with excitement! There were feathers, there were sequins, there were smiles from ear to ear. And Margot, oh, my dear, she truly captured the heart of the entire audience.

This, my lovely tutu enthusiasts, is what makes ballet so incredible. It's about the magic, the artistry, and the emotion, woven into every pirouette and plié. It’s not just about a tutu, although those tutus were magnificent! They had the fluffiest tutus, the longest, most graceful lines - all that movement, so captivating!

But the 70s weren’t just about graceful, delicate ballerinas, my dears. This was also the era of Margot Fonteyn’s rival, Natalia Makarova, a fiery, passionate performer who embraced a bold, energetic approach. I watched her during my time-travelling jaunt. It was remarkable how she changed the whole dance world, taking tutus and ballet onto a bold new stage! She used the tulle, not as a pretty piece of fabric, but as a tool, a way to embody emotion, power and daring.

The ballet world, just like fashion, was changing! We're seeing the influence of rock n’ roll and a new expression of individualism seep into every art form. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

But here’s the truth: no matter what style or decade we're in, the joy of tutu twirling remains the same. It’s like a fairytale brought to life! That's what we're celebrating here at Pink-Tutu.com, the timeless beauty of the tutu! And what’s better than one tutu? A tutu with a good, long flowing skirt!

So, darlings, embrace the tutu, whether you're a seasoned ballerina, or you’re just dipping your toes in the world of dance. There's nothing more magical than a twirl in a tutu, feeling your spirit soar with every leap. Remember, every single one of us can find a little tutu-inspired magic within ourselves!

Until next Tutu Tuesday, stay radiant and keep those twirling spirits high!

*Love, *

P.S. My darlings! If you are looking for your perfect 1970s style ballet tutu, head to the Royal Opera House website and have a browse! I did, and oh my gosh, the craftsmanship! They were designed by Karl Lagerfeld – such beautiful inspiration. You know me, I had to snatch up the very last fluffy feather-boa style, glitzy white tulle with red trim one – my secret weapons for next week’s performance in Derby! You'll be hearing all about it!
