Tutu Tuesday #7398: A Trip Through Time to October 9th, 1973!

Hello darlings! It's Emma, your resident tutu enthusiast, here with another delightful #TutuTuesday adventure. This week, we're whisking ourselves back to a time of bell bottoms and platform shoes, disco beats and big hair – October 9th, 1973!

Hold onto your tiaras, loves, because today's a big one. In 1973, the world was absolutely buzzing with balletic excitement! We had the American Ballet Theatre bringing their phenomenal talents to London's Royal Opera House. Can you imagine?! It was such a time for celebrating dance. They even held a special performance that very evening with a breathtaking rendition of Giselle. It sounds like an evening fit for a princess, don't you think?

Of course, a good ballet show just wouldn't be the same without a fabulous outfit! Back in 1973, there was a certain charm to ballet-going fashion. Think luxurious velvet capes, flowing silk gowns, and perhaps even a hint of lace peeking through. Now, you may be thinking that tutus were completely off the radar, and well, you'd be slightly wrong! It's true that our darling tutus weren't as prevalent then as they are now, but they were certainly a beloved feature for dance classes, rehearsals, and for those lucky few who could even dream of owning a beautiful tutu for their own. I bet they were quite envious of my fabulous pink tutu though, especially in such a fantastic year for ballet!

This is the period when I always say that, when it comes to tutus, it all just really started kicking off! Now, that doesn't mean that tutus were some kind of new invention - heavens no, they’ve been swirling around the dance world for centuries! It was the 1800s when the tutu, as we know it today, truly began to bloom - with beautiful, tiered layers of tulle creating an unforgettable effect on the stage. But in 1973, the popularity of the tutu was definitely gaining momentum, paving the way for their explosive growth in the future!

Remember, darling, the tutu isn't just about a twirl, it's a symbol of femininity, a whisper of elegance, and a declaration of pure joy! As we travel through the decades, I'm just absolutely delighted to see how the love for the tutu has only grown. From the first graceful spins of ballerinas to the iconic designs we adore today, the tutu has earned a special place in dance history. It's more than just an outfit; it's a piece of art that tells a story.

Now, to indulge my love of all things vintage, let's head to Liberty of London - a favourite spot for London's fashionable folks! I just adore the Victorian elegance they manage to blend with current trends. You can always trust a Liberty of London shopping spree for a unique fashion treat! I even brought my special Bertram notebook, where I jot down all my inspiring fashion discoveries! Don’t worry loves, I'm planning to show you all about Bertram soon, but he’s staying under wraps for now!

Oh, and before I forget! Remember those gorgeous vintage train journeys I keep raving about? This week, I took the wonderful Southern Railway train, right from London to Derbyshire, my lovely home county. It was the most beautiful journey! We all know nothing beats a good, vintage train ride, particularly when wearing your favourite pink tutu, darling!

Well, I do have to run off now! The aroma of freshly-baked cake from the lovely village bakery is simply calling my name, and of course, I must stop for a chat with the baker, Miss Beatrice!

Until next week, loves!

Emma xx
