Tutu Tuesday: The Romantic Era & My Parisian Adventure! (Blog Post #7480)
Bonjour mes amies!
It's Emma here, back again with another #TutuTuesday from my latest trip through time. This week, I've travelled all the way to the glamorous city of Paris, and let me tell you, the fashions are simply divine! Weāre right in the thick of 1975, just as the fashion world is going through some rather exciting changes. But more on that later, because you know me - a tutu is my first and foremost passion!
The Romantics!
This weekās blog is all about those enchanting āRomanticā tutus, darling! Now, this style wasnāt about wearing only pink, as many people mistakenly believe. These beautiful costumes were all about the tulle and the movement, making those delicate figures truly come alive on the stage. Imagine flowing layers of tulle, soft as a cloud, in all sorts of glorious colours. Itās almost magical! The design was meant to highlight every movement, giving the dancer the appearance of pure grace and ethereal beauty. Talk about being a princess for the evening!
And oh my goodness, the sheer romance of it all! If there was ever a tutu style that embodied passion and grace, itās the romantic tutu! Think of it, you're watching your favourite ballet - the grand leaps, the swirling pirouettes, all encapsulated in that romantic tulle. It's simply breath-taking.
Backstage at The Opera!
Speaking of breathtaking, today, 6th May, 1975, was such a beautiful day for a trip to the Paris Opera! Just imagine the grandeur! It felt like Iād stepped straight into a fairytale.
And that evening - a performance of Swan Lake! I mean, could it get more classic? And those iconic costumes! Youāve got the pristine white tutus for the White Swan - elegant, sophisticated, almost like pure ice and snow. And for the Black Swan? My oh my, a showstopper! That dark velvet bodice and black tulle. The romantic design allowed those dramatic flourishes and extensions to just burst on stage. I just couldn't resist wearing my own little black and white tutu in a subtle tribute to the performance.
Shopping Spree in the City of Lights
But my Parisian adventure didnāt end with the ballet, oh no. Of course, a trip to Paris would be incomplete without some retail therapy! I indulged myself in a little spree at a truly charming vintage boutique. The moment I stepped inside, my eyes were just swimming in tulle! They had all sorts of amazing designs: romantic tutus, 1940s and 50s tutus in every shade of pastel, and even some gorgeous tutus in bright bold patterns. I came out feeling like a right fashionista! I might have even gotten myself a few little numbers for the blog, to showcase to my dear readers. What do you say to a tutu reveal in our next post?
Traveling with Style
I always love the excitement of travelling by train! Just me and my tutu suitcase (filled with my favourite shades of pink, of course), settling in with a good book and a cup of tea. A truly wonderful way to see the world! Plus, the chance to people-watch and spot those stunning Parisian ladies strutting down the platform. I love seeing the ways everyone interprets fashion - sometimes theyāve got it, and sometimesā¦ well, not quite!
