#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 1975-05-13 (Post #7481)

Hello my lovelies! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed time traveller, back again with another exciting #TutuTuesday installment for your reading pleasure!

This week, I'm taking a trip to the year 1975, just before my time! You wouldn't believe the fashion I've seen – flared jeans, platforms, and even those strange little handbags called "bum bags"! Talk about a trip down memory lane! I couldn't resist snagging a few vintage finds, too – I just knew my little pink tutu needed some disco-era company!

But let's talk ballet, shall we? The year is 1975, and we're getting a little deeper into the era of contemporary dance, folks! You know what that means? The glorious ballet tutu is being explored and experimented with like never before! It’s no longer just a classic romantic silhouette – the dancers are flaunting a world of different shapes, styles, and even colours! We’re talking about revolutionary dance that isn’t just confined to the classical norm – it’s dynamic, daring, and totally breathtaking!

Let's Talk Fashion

One of my absolute favourite finds in this period is the rise of the "romantic" tutu, also known as a "tulle" tutu. I've got my eye on one, crafted from super soft layers of tulle and flowing down from the waist. Can you imagine how wonderfully light and whimsical it looks in action?! I’ve even got myself a fab pair of platform boots that go perfectly with this romantic vibe - a modern ballerina needs a modern twist!

Imagine a ballet dancer pirouetting on stage in one of these enchanting, flowing creations. You’re seeing a ballet tutu, but it’s not your grandmother’s tutu – it’s soft, romantic, and expressive. Talk about a fairytale in action! I’m practically tripping over myself trying to get a good look at this modern, enchanting beauty!

Of course, in 1975, they aren’t completely ditching the classic look, and you’re still going to find traditional tutus with those classic layered frills. It’s an iconic silhouette for a reason, folks! Even in my timeline, I just can’t get enough of those glorious frills, can you? But, what we are seeing now is a celebration of different styles – just like a ballerina’s dance can be full of variation!

The really exciting thing, though? We are seeing the rise of colourful tutus! Imagine a vibrant blue or an incredible crimson! Imagine how fantastic those colors must look dancing under stage lights – I’d be speechless! It's just another way the tutu is being revitalized, modernized and given a chance to express all those wonderful emotions. The tutu's being pushed beyond its limits and embracing the potential of bold colors and designs!

What's on the Ballet Calendar?

This month in 1975, there’s some exciting action in the world of ballet! For example, Rudolf Nureyev, the renowned dancer, has just unveiled a brand new interpretation of "Giselle" with the Royal Ballet! Now, Giselle has always been one of my favourite ballets – the beautiful, tragic story of love and sacrifice is just so moving! I can only imagine how Nureyev's modern interpretation might be bringing a new and exciting perspective to it all! I must have a peek for myself!

On a personal note, I've been working on some truly incredible new ballet sequences! It's time for a little "Tutu Tuesday" rehearsal, my friends! As I glide through the air in my gorgeous pink tutu, I can feel the energy building, waiting to burst onto the stage. There's magic in a pink tutu!

I know this time-travelling gig is a tough one! But just as a tutu can be transformed, so can a dancer! Ballet gives us wings, just like it has been giving ballet dancers for centuries! So keep watching, keep dancing, and don’t forget to let your pink tutu inspire you, because as you know, this girl believes the best kind of transformation happens when you are daring, original, and totally committed to the tutu! Until next time, my darling lovelies!

P.S. Don't forget to check out my gorgeous pink tutus on my online store, www.pink-tutu.com! Every little bit of funding helps keep my time-travelling ballet adventures going!

See you next week for more #TutuTuesday!

Love,

Emma xx
