#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - A Blast from the Past! (Post #7575)
Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, ready to whisk you back in time for another instalment of #TutuTuesday. This week we're jetting back to March 1st, 1977 ā a time of platform shoes, disco beats and, of course, fabulous tutus!
Imagine, if you will, a world without TikTok dances. Can you even conceive of such a reality? Well, thatās what life was like back in 1977. But what was life like in the world of ballet? Hold onto your tutus, ladies, weāre about to take a trip down memory lane.
This date happens to be very special because the Royal Ballet are opening their Spring season in London at the Royal Opera House. Can you imagine, all that glamour and dancing right on my doorstep! Itās like a little slice of heaven.
I've heard whispers that a certain Rudolf Nureyev is appearing ā he's just so breathtakingly talented! Honestly, the manās like a living, breathing work of art. Thereās just something about the power and passion that emanates from himā¦ I bet he makes a spectacular sight in his tutu.
Of course, no tutu journey is complete without a little chat about fashion. I absolutely adore this era! Thereās such a dramatic elegance to it, like something straight out of a movie. The fashion world was all about dramatic, oversized clothing with a bit of a futuristic edge. Think sleek and metallic finishes with bold colours.
However, I am still head-over-heels for those iconic, voluminous skirts that dominated fashion at the time. Iām thinking tiered layers, flowy fabrics, and vibrant colours ā it's all so feminine and, let's face it, it screams tutu to me! Think about it, they almost look like a swirling cloud of ballerina perfection, especially with all the pastel hues swirling about. They perfectly mirror the beautiful romanticism that tutus are known for.
I think everyone should try at least once rocking a massive, puffy skirt and a bright pink top - the confidence is infectious! Now, back to the past. Did I mention the trend of the giant platform shoes everyone was sporting back in '77? I mean, they were literally designed to add an extra foot to your stature, giving you even more height and grace like a ballerina on stage. I must say, Iām a little intimidated! It makes getting on pointe shoes feel like a picnic!
I canāt imagine stepping out in public on a night out in London without a beautiful pair of platform heels ā imagine how great theyād look under a flowing pastel dress? Perfect! And if youāre thinking ābut what if Iām too petiteā don't worry, my darling, Iāve seen photos of women of all heights rocking those heels ā even small ladies look fabulous. And donāt get me wrong, those high-top shoes, with their vibrant, geometric designs are something else entirely.
Iām dying to head out to a fancy nightclub like the ones I've seen in magazines. A true disco goddess in her full pink glory, itās definitely my dream outfit! You just canāt go wrong with a glittering pink number ā itās so versatile. For an everyday look, simply pair a bright pink top with jeans for an understated and cute look. Alternatively, dress it up with some sparkles for a more glamorous event! Donāt forget that pink isn't just for your clothes, my friends. Itās also a lovely, sophisticated way to express yourself. Pink can look equally chic when paired with bold makeup ā I'm all about bold lashes and vibrant eyeshadows this week! Iāve even got my eyes on some lovely shimmery eye-shadow - Iām picturing it being in a shade of pale pink!
As the new season in ballet continues in London, you can bet I'll be enjoying as much as possible. Thatās especially the case because, letās be honest, tutus never go out of style. I mean, theyāve been the star of the show for over a century and thatās testament to their beauty and elegance!
Well, my lovely ladies, until next week, I hope you've been inspired to make a trip back in time with me today. Don't forget, my little darlings, be fearless and embrace your inner ballerina. Let your style radiate confidence and let your inner diva shine bright. And remember, pink tutus are always a good idea! See you soon!
