Tutu Tuesday: A Time-Travelling Tutu-Tastic Trip to 1977! 🩰🌸💖

Hello, darling Tutu-lovers! Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina, back with another edition of my #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History blog! Today, we’re taking a train ride back in time, all the way to 1977!

This week’s date is 19th April, 1977, and I’m so excited to delve into the world of ballet during this vibrant, fabulous year! This particular Tuesday, the air would have been buzzing with excitement for the opening night of "La Traviata" at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. Imagine the sheer thrill! You know I would have been there, my pink tutu twirling like a happy cloud, soaking up the grandeur of this glorious performance!

And what’s more exciting, in that same month, we would have seen Dame Margot Fonteyn, the legendary ballerina, gracing the stage in “Swan Lake” at the Royal Ballet. A true ballet icon, Dame Margot is an inspiration to me! Her performances are so full of passion and grace – just the sort of ballet I adore!

Oh, but this journey through 1977 is more than just seeing a ballet performance. It's a delightful dip into the fascinating world of fashion. While ballet was in its full bloom of elegance and grace, so was the fashion world!

In 1977, the world was swirling with the disco era! Can you imagine, the glamour and glitter of it all! You could find sequins everywhere – and let's face it, glitter never goes out of style. 😉 Just picture all those stunning dance outfits from 1977, those incredible colours, the layers of fringe – the ultimate dance party vibe! It was truly a magical era!

My outfit of choice would be an equally glittering number, naturally! It would be a magnificent pink tutu with silver sequin trim, a lacy lilac top, and sparkling silver stilettos – perfect for both the ballet and the dance floor! 💖👠✨

And just imagine what the street style would be like! Everyone would have been looking their best, full of energy and life, showing off the vibrant trends. I bet I could even snag a fabulous hat with a glitzy feathered trim at one of the market stalls near Covent Garden!

Now, don’t think that tutus were stuck in a dusty old time capsule! No way, dear readers! In 1977, tutus were being reinvented, with exciting new fabrics, lengths and silhouettes! You know how much I love my full, billowing tulle tutus, but 1977 was bringing some seriously bold styles - *imagine a tutu that would make a dramatic, swirling statement!

I would be eager to shop for a new tutu in 1977. After all, who can resist a classic piece with a touch of contemporary flair? That’s where my favourite place comes in: Harrods! The absolute mecca for everything fabulous! I’d imagine the window displays overflowing with glittering gowns, funky patterns, and colourful fabrics – just the sort of inspiration I need for my ballet costumes!

In 1977, a trip to Harrods wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the famous "Food Hall." Now, imagine walking into this wonderland of exquisite delicacies – oh, the joy! From French patisseries to the finest cheeses, it would have been a delicious journey! Who could resist a lovely French meringue with a dollop of fresh cream to fuel up for my dancing?

Of course, a journey back to 1977 wouldn’t be complete without taking in a show! This was a time for big-haired stars like Olivia Newton-John and The Bee Gees! I’d imagine myself swaying in a velvet armchair at the Palladium, singing along with everyone else to the groovy music of The Jackson 5!

Yes, darling Tutu-lovers, my 1977 time-travelling adventure would be filled with beautiful ballet performances, fashion-forward flair, and vibrant disco energy. You know what, 1977 wasn't all that different to today, only even more glamorous! It's wonderful to see how ballet and fashion are constantly evolving and keeping things fresh. After all, our love of ballet and the elegance of tutus is a timelessly beautiful affair, something that will forever have a special place in my heart – and in our hearts!

Don’t forget to share your thoughts on this #TutuTuesday and tag me in your favorite photos of yourself in tutus on my website, www.pink-tutu.com! Keep those tutus twirling and don’t forget, in a world that can feel quite grey, a touch of pink, sparkle and a twirling tutu will always bring a dash of joy!

And remember, always wear a pink tutu, it makes the world a little brighter. 😉 Until next Tuesday, darlings!
