#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1977-08-16 - A Summer Soirée in Paris!
Bonjour, mes chéries! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, bringing you the latest from the fabulous world of ballet history. It's Tuesday, which means it's #TutuTuesday! And today we're whisking ourselves back to a delightful summer day in Paris, 1977.
This blog post is extra special – number 7599! And do you know what else is extra special? The history of ballet itself! So, let's dive into a world of sequins, romance, and pirouettes.
Paris - City of Lights, City of Tutus!
Oh, Paris! A city synonymous with fashion, artistry, and of course, ballet. The streets are alive with music and movement, and I, in my oh-so-pink tutu, feel utterly at home here! Today's Parisian scene is all about the Grands Ballets. The stage is set with majestic grand theatres like the Palais Garnier and Opéra de Paris, shimmering with lights, buzzing with energy and oh, those stunning sets and costumes!
Tutu Tales from 1977
The year 1977 was a banner year for ballet! Just think – this is the year Rudolf Nureyev was at the top of his game! A true titan of the dance world, his artistry redefined classical ballet, making it accessible to a new generation of lovers of dance. He brought the fire and drama to each role – think "Swan Lake," "Romeo and Juliet," and even his "Don Quixote," which captivated the world with his stunning virtuosity.
But don't forget about the ladies, dear readers! In the Paris ballet world of '77, names like Sylvie Guillem, Ghislaine Thesmar, and Noëlla Pontois graced the stage with elegance and grace. This era brought an exciting new level of dynamism and beauty to ballet! And what a wonderful blend of both, combining both classical and modern forms of the art. It's this exquisite mix that brings us here, back to this vibrant world.
What's on Tonight?
My time travel adventure brings me to the Opéra Bastille tonight. It's the premier of a new creation by Roland Petit. "Le Diable à Quatre" promises to be a daring and delightful exploration of the clash between passion and societal rules, brought to life through a spectacular choreography set to some fantastic music. And do you know what else is delightful? Watching the world of ballet, even as a time traveller, from a delicious seat at a local Parisian patisserie.
I mean, honestly, wouldn’t you want to travel back in time for the ballet? It's so much more than just dance. It's an experience that takes you to a world of magic, creativity, and sheer brilliance! And of course, all within the realm of dazzling, sparkly, pink-tutu heaven! Just imagine!
What are You Doing Tonight?
Tonight, after a day spent admiring Paris' charming shops, exploring charming Parisian tea shops and taking a stroll by the Seine, I'm joining a little "ballets et cocktails" affair at my favourite Parisian boutique! My dear friends, all lovely ballet-mad souls just like me, are there to enjoy the latest tutus – some from Cachou ( oh, those luscious fabrics!) and others even from the iconic Repetto, that chic brand every ballet girl desires! Think fabulous dance shoes, and everything ballet. It's the epitome of Parisian charm and Parisian grace, the stuff that dreams are made of!
I encourage you to join me in the pink-tutu world of fashion and fun. Let's bring that whimsical, dreamy world to our everyday lives. Just don't tell anyone you met me - this time traveller is known to only exist in the blog world, a secret I try to keep hidden...but we'll leave that for another #TutuTuesday, won't we, darlings?
See you next week!

P.P.S. If you ever find yourself in Derbyshire, England, don't be surprised to see me on the train, my fellow dance lovers, perhaps heading to see a performance by the brilliant Royal Ballet! There's a reason I was born here - this little patch of the British countryside seems to just flow with music and movement...and let's be honest, it just has this fairytale vibe! Don't forget your tutus - be sure to stop by a Derbyshire bakery for some delicious treats!
