#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A 1977 Time Travel Adventure! 🩰
Hello my fellow tutu lovers!
Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com, your weekly dose of all things tutu! Today's #TutuTuesday blog is extra special – it's about to take us back in time! 🕰️ Buckle up, ladies, we're taking a trip back to August 23rd, 1977, on the Pink Tutu Time Machine!
Before we blast off to the 70s, let's remember that this is blog number 7600! That's a LOT of tutus! 🎉 I just want to thank each and every one of you for being a part of this journey. Let's keep spreading the tutu love! 💖
Now, who's ready to step into a groovy era where bell bottoms, disco balls, and a whole lotta sparkle were all the rage? This was the time of "Saturday Night Fever," of John Travolta's iconic dance moves and of a real boom in the ballet world. Let's dive into some exciting Tutu history!
What's Happening On 23rd August, 1977?
- In London, Grease is the hottest musical on the West End scene, filling theaters with rock and roll tunes, hot dance numbers and a sprinkle of good ol' fashioned high school drama. Now, imagine those classic moves in Grease being given a beautiful balletic twist... imagine that! 💥
- Speaking of West End hits, The Sound of Music is celebrating its 12th year running! Just imagine the glorious costumes and heartwarming moments onstage! If I were in 1977, you'd find me backstage begging for some Sound of Music fabrics to add to my wardrobe... 🤩
Tutuland in 1977
Imagine this: the tutus of the 70s! 💫 This was an era of big hair, flowing lines, and colours so bright they could melt a snowflake. If you thought the 80s were bold, hold onto your tutus - the 70s had some truly revolutionary styles!
But what kind of tutus are we talking about?
We're talking tutus of all shapes and sizes! From the classic romantic, single-layer tulle tutus to more experimental pieces with multi-layers and unique designs. The 70s weren't afraid of bold colour combinations and they certainly didn't shy away from sequins and feathers! Think bold splashes of orange, sunshine yellow, and jewel tones – all accented by luxurious velvet sashes or silk ribbons. 💃
What is it like in the London theatre district?
It's a truly magical place! Covent Garden was already famous for its grandeur and beauty, with ballet companies like the Royal Ballet pushing the boundaries of dance with groundbreaking works by choreographers like Frederick Ashton. Think of elaborate tutus with detailed craftsmanship, elegant embroidery, and stunning color combinations. ✨
The Travelling Ballerina
And guess what - the best part about all this is that you can actually witness this amazing theatrical scene for yourself! That's right – my latest time travel adventure had me taking a train to London (the smell of those vintage compartments… oh my!). My train journey was pure delight: imagining all the theatrical and cultural sights that awaited. 🚄
I’m such a fan of the theatre! Watching ballet live is a total inspiration. Seeing dancers bringing the stories to life with the magic of movement and those glorious tutus – it’s something special. ✨
My adventures always include finding some amazing vintage tutu shops hidden in London's colourful back streets and antique arcades. A little vintage treasure hunt in a tutu – a girl’s dream come true! 💕
Tutu Style Tips
So how can you channel this glamorous era in your own tutu style? Think of pairing those fluffy tutus with oversized sweaters for a fun contrast of textures or adding a retro 70s vibe with a chunky belt. If you're feeling adventurous, try a brightly coloured denim jacket with a colourful tutu for a casual-cool look.
And remember: a tutu is always an excuse for sparkle! A dash of glittery eyeshadow, bold earrings, and maybe even a headband with a vintage flower? You bet! Flower power never goes out of style, especially in the world of tutus! 🌷
Keep on Dancing
Now, it’s time to travel back to the present. As I pack up my Pink Tutu Time Machine for my next adventure, I want you all to know how grateful I am for being part of this Tutu-filled world with you. Don't forget: wear your tutus with confidence and spread the joy! ✨
Until next Tuesday,
Emma 💖
P.S. Stay tuned for next week’s #TutuTuesday post, where we’re exploring tutus from an even earlier era – get ready for some serious tutu nostalgia! 🩰
