#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - July 4th 1978: A Blast from the Past!
Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your #TutuTuesday host, and I'm thrilled to whisk you away to 1978 today! Just picture it - big hair, bell bottoms, and, of course, the glorious tutu! Oh, how I long to see those frothy layers swirling across the stage!
Today, we're going all the way back to July 4th, 1978. What a fantastic day! Independence Day in the USA - can you imagine, a whole country dedicated to celebrating freedom?! It truly warms my heart. But for our journey today, we’ll be focusing on the exciting things happening in the ballet world, because that's where our true passion lies.
Now, remember those lovely ballet slippers from last week's blog? Those have come a long way since 1978! Back then, many ballerinas were using a canvas-based, hand-sewn type of pointe shoe, often adorned with intricate stitching. It was a real craft, a real passion! And we can still find some incredible replicas of those elegant footwear today, you know. They are so intricate and charming.
On this July 4th, there were also a multitude of performances popping up all across the world, I bet! Imagine that glorious feeling of anticipation, waiting for the lights to dim and the orchestra to strike that first note. A wave of excitement ripples through the auditorium and you know that magic is about to unfold. The world's biggest ballet companies were out in force that night. The Bolshoi in Moscow was surely mesmerizing their audiences, whilst Covent Garden here in London would have been drawing the crowds with their exquisite performances. And we've got to talk about the dazzling ballet performances happening in America. They have such a fantastic passion for dance, so it would be bursting with a truly fabulous selection of companies like New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. And don't forget all the fabulous schools of dance where young, aspiring dancers were preparing for their own grand entrance on the stage!
To fuel this insatiable passion for dance, I think we all need a bit of inspiration and maybe a new pink tutu. This brings us nicely to this week's lovely ballet shopping treat - a touch of romance with a stunning Victorian lace and chiffon tutu! I just can’t resist a bit of romantic elegance! Imagine it cascading with the most exquisite swirling layers in a vibrant shade of pink! Oh, it’s giving off the dreamiest of ballet vibes! And just picture yourself twirling to the sound of a soft, lyrical melody... the ultimate ballerina's dream, I tell you. And I promise you, my dear readers, you'll look absolutely stunning in it. Trust me!
To celebrate all things ballet, I absolutely love hopping onto a train and exploring the vibrant, cultural heart of London. With each clickety-clack, the anticipation grows. This trip is all about that glorious feeling of discovery, knowing that the London stage is full of inspiring performances to discover. I'm even thinking of treating myself to some bespoke handmade pointe shoes... you know I have to do what it takes to keep up with all those marvelous ballet stars!
But even for a dedicated dancer like myself, taking a step back and appreciating the bigger picture is important. Remember, life's not always about those perfectly timed pirouettes. You just need to stay focused and listen to your inner dancer. I believe everyone has a dancer within! Keep your eyes peeled for our next blog - you know where to find us.
