#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: October 3rd, 1978 - A Trip Back to the '70s! 🩰💖
Hello lovelies! Emma here, your very own pink-tutu-clad time traveller, back again with another exciting #TutuTuesday! This week, we’re twirling our way back to the fabulously funky 1970s! I always feel a bit nostalgic about this decade – the music, the fashion, and of course, the brilliant ballet! Today, we’re exploring what the world of ballet looked like on October 3rd, 1978, and how tutus fit in, darlings!
Remember this is post number 7658 on www.pink-tutu.com If you haven’t been to the site yet you’re missing out!
This week, I took the train up to London, a must for any budding ballerina in the seventies, with my suitcase filled to the brim with a sparkly pink tutu and all my favourite, fashionable frocks. I must say, there was nothing quite like the excitement of travelling by train – that clinking of carriages and whiff of smoke in the air always makes me feel like I’m about to embark on a magical adventure!
Anyway, as always, before I get carried away with my journey, let’s get down to some Tutu History. I spent the morning indulging in a spot of window-shopping in Covent Garden, where the chic boutiques were showcasing the latest designs - and my oh my, the colours and patterns were just so daring! We’re talking wide-legged trousers, floral prints galore, and of course, everyone in their seventies finest, and this meant a few bold pink tutus out and about on the streets of London.
There were certainly some great performances on the stage as well, with some ballet classics making headlines on the 3rd of October, 1978. London’s Royal Opera House was abuzz with activity, hosting a performance of 'Giselle', which everyone knows and loves – a beautiful ballet, filled with drama and grace. At Sadler's Wells Theatre, the legendary Royal Ballet was showcasing their breathtaking choreography, bringing the stage to life with dynamic leaps and powerful extensions. It's fascinating to think about the generations of ballerinas who've graced these very stages!
My evening was filled with such a buzz! A gorgeous ballet show at Sadler’s Wells. Then after it finished, I joined my friends, (yes, they are my tutu loving buddies) at the theatre for some dinner, we then made our way down to a fantastic pub in Covent Garden for drinks. It’s truly fascinating how fashion in the seventies influenced dance. Ballet wasn't just on stage anymore - it was seeping into our everyday lives, with the tutus and bold silhouettes spilling out onto the streets. And oh how I loved seeing this!
After the excitement of the city, my Tuesday finished with a quiet train journey back home to Derbyshire, reflecting on the wonderful day and the amazing progress ballet was making. There’s something truly special about the spirit of the seventies – the experimentation, the desire for change, the dedication to self-expression!
Okay, lovelies, I hope you've enjoyed your trip back to the fabulously funky seventies! I’ve certainly had a great time. Please let me know what you think in the comments below. Remember, wear your tutu, love life, and be brave enough to be yourself, darling.
See you next Tuesday, Emma xx
