Tutu Tuesday #7693: Back to the Future of Tutu! (1979-06-05)

Oh my darlings, happy Tutu Tuesday! Today we're waltzing back in time to the dazzling era of 1979. Put on your finest pink tutus, grab a cuppa, and settle in for a journey through the fabulous world of ballet!

Now, as a seasoned time traveller, I can tell you - the seventies were all about freedom and expression. Fashion was bold, music was groovy, and dance was definitely something special.

I'm perched here in my little pink studio apartment, which, honestly, is just a bit too chic for its time, right in the heart of the ballet district. The air is thick with the scent of jasmine and the murmur of rehearsal studios. It's the most magical feeling - even in 1979!

I was so thrilled to find a beautiful antique shop packed with exquisite vintage dancewear. It was like a tutu heaven! There were so many amazing silk and tulle tutus, perfectly ruffled and pleated, just waiting to be twirled. You see, dear reader, the fashion scene of 1979 really embraced the romanticism of tutus - it was the perfect way to add a touch of ethereal grace to any look. And even more delightful was the absolute explosion of vibrant pinks I stumbled upon! Pink was the colour, oh my!

I can just picture myself attending a fabulous opening night. The theatre, bursting with colour and excitement, lit by spotlights as the star ballerina gracefully glides across the stage in a dazzling tutu. Imagine that, my dears, pure magic!

But enough about me! Let's talk about our historical highlight of the day!

On June 5th, 1979, the iconic Les Misérables premiered at the Barbican Theatre in London! Oh darling, it was simply groundbreaking. The musical sensation is now known worldwide, but it was this day that truly started the epic Les Misérables saga. To think of all those stories and characters taking centre stage, it really makes your heart sing, doesn’t it? I simply must go back and catch this show in all its glorious seventies fashion.

Now, we all know tutus are about so much more than just fashion, they're about confidence, grace and pure, unadulterated joy! And let's be honest, who doesn't feel like a princess in a pink tutu? It’s time to let loose, my darlings, spin, twirl and let your inner ballerina shine! This Tuesday, wear pink, wear a tutu, and be your fabulous selves! And don’t forget to check out your local theatre, you never know what ballet marvels await you!

Keep twirling and stay fabulous,

Emma xx

P.S: My travels are taking me by train to Paris next week, the city of love! Oh darling, I simply can't wait! Keep an eye out for my post next Tuesday where I’ll share my Parisian ballet adventures!

(Emma adds a pink flower to the top of the post to finish.)
