#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 1980-12-02 - Post Number 7771! 🩰
Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! It’s your favourite Derbyshire girl Emma here, bringing you another fabulous installment of #TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History, direct from my time travelling pink tutu adventures!
Today we’re taking a trip back to 1980 – a glorious time for ballet! The year the world got its first glimpse of the utterly sensational “The Nutcracker” by Rudolf Nureyev. Now, imagine the wonder of that performance! You’ve got a gorgeous Nureyev (such a handsome dancer!), swirling, twirling, leaping like a dream through Tchaikovsky’s beautiful music, all captured on screen in the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden… a ballet lover’s absolute dream! 🩰
Speaking of the Royal Opera House, my darling friends, if there’s one place on earth that epitomises the magic of the tutu, it’s Covent Garden. And if you’re thinking about visiting, this December 2nd, 1980, marks National Ballet Day in the UK. I can almost imagine the atmosphere… so vibrant! The Royal Ballet showcasing all the amazing things the art form has to offer. It's like a pink tulle dream come true! 💕
You know what’s great about time travelling, darling? I get to indulge my love of all things pink and tutu without a second thought! On this lovely December day in 1980, a little shop on London’s famous Oxford Street, "Harrods," is overflowing with fabulous fabrics in every shade imaginable. Just picture it – beautiful silk and cotton, ready to be transformed into the most stunning tutus, fit for a ballerina like yours truly. Imagine! I practically had a pink overload! 💖
You know what they say – every fashion forward person needs a great tutu in their life, right? I certainly feel that way! My current fave is this pale, pink, fluffy, dream-of-a-tutu, and it pairs perfectly with my pink satin ballerina slippers and my adorable little vintage cardigan! 🎀
And speaking of adorable vintage treasures, this trip wouldn't be complete without a visit to Liberty’s, London’s treasure trove of stunning designs! If you’re in the mood for exquisite vintage lace and floral patterns to adorn your tutu (or perhaps, just to create some fabulous, girly accessories) Liberty's is the perfect place to spend the day. This enchanting little spot reminds me so much of my favorite childhood story - The Secret Garden. Such romantic notions and incredible charm! 🌿
I am telling you, my darlings, travelling through time in a pink tutu has truly made me realise what a spectacular art form ballet truly is, especially the magic of a tutu! From the intricate work of talented craftspeople to the pure joy it brings to the audience, ballet truly captivates the heart. And a pink tutu, darling? Well, that's a guaranteed good time! 💖
As always, keep an eye out for the pink tutu trail I leave behind me and feel free to join me in celebrating the amazing, magical world of dance! Let’s all be the beautiful ballerina’s we’ve always dreamt of!
Until next Tuesday, darling! XOXO
Emma 💖
