#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History, 7th July 1981! (Blog Post No. 7802)

Hello my darlings! Welcome to another exciting week of Tutu Tuesday on pink-tutu.com! I'm Emma, your time-travelling tutu enthusiast, back from another whirl through the ballet world! This week we're going to hop back to a particularly dazzling era ā€“ 7th July 1981! Can you believe it? This week marks the 42nd anniversary of ...well, you'll just have to keep reading!

I arrived in Paris this time, which, let me tell you, is always a dream for a tutu-loving girl! The fashion scene here is beyond compare, and there are ballet performances around every corner. As usual, I made sure to squeeze in some quality time at the Galeries Lafayette (it's practically a pilgrimage for a fashion-obsessed gal like me). I couldn't resist picking up a little something ā€“ a delicate pink silk scarf for my next performance, naturally! It wouldn't be Tutu Tuesday without a touch of pink, would it?

Now, about the 7th of July 1981. It was a momentous day for the world of ballet! Can you guess what happened? Well, my darlings, on this very date, the Royal Ballet performed "The Sleeping Beauty" at Covent Garden! Imagine the wonder! And of course, they wore some stunning, spectacular, and truly enchanting tutus. I managed to snag a ticket (my ballet performance earnings are rather useful!) and it was an absolute dream! The famous ā€œRose Adagioā€ scene was absolutely breathtaking, especially the tutus - a riot of colourful layers and graceful swishing as the ballerinas twirled on the stage.

Letā€™s talk about the evolution of tutus, shall we? It's a subject very dear to my heart! In 1981, tutus were still evolving from the more traditional "bell shape" (popular throughout the 1800s), moving towards a more romantic and expressive silhouette with layers of tulle creating graceful, ethereal designs. This ā€œRomantic" era for tutus is what makes the performances of 1981 truly remarkable.

Back then, the materials were a bit less "ethereal" than weā€™re used to today, think about it, my darlings - no Lycra! The tutus were often painstakingly made with layer upon layer of netting. Each one a testament to the sheer artistry and skill of the makers. The result was a breathtaking explosion of tulle on stage, almost like a magical ballet of pink! I know Iā€™m saying "pink" a lot, but let's face it, tutus and pink are simply a match made in heaven.

So, there you have it! The 7th of July, 1981! "The Sleeping Beauty" performed at the Covent Garden, an unforgettable night with spectacular tutus! This little slice of ballet history always makes me excited about the incredible journey the ballet tutu has taken!

Of course, a #TutuTuesday post wouldnā€™t be complete without me giving you a little inspiration for your own tutu wear. As always, the key is embracing the ā€œPink and Poseyā€ look! Go ahead and be daring, embrace the bold, be extra - because every day should feel like a ballet performance. My favorite tutu for today would have to be a delicate baby pink tulle one with a touch of shimmer. And a little bit of feather boa around the neckline never hurts! Just a tiny touch of magic.

My fellow tutu lovers! Make sure to join me next week on Tutu Tuesday, where weā€™ll delve further into the fascinating history of balletā€™s favorite fashion staple! Donā€™t forget to share your favorite tutu looks using #TutuTuesday on your social media platforms! Letā€™s make tutus the most popular style!

Until next week, stay pink and fabulous!

With tulle love,

Emma.
