Hello my lovelies! It’s Emma here, back with another exciting #TutuTuesday! This week, we’re whisking ourselves back to a rather fabulous date: July 14th, 1981. Can you imagine the excitement? The world was gearing up for a summer of glamour and wonder, and of course, my mind immediately drifts to the wonderful world of tutus!
Now, imagine this - you’re sat at home in Derbyshire, listening to the radio (with your headphones on, of course, you wouldn't want to miss the latest pop hit!), flipping through glossy fashion magazines. Suddenly, a news bulletin cuts in. "The Royal Wedding! Lady Diana Spencer, and Prince Charles have married today." It’s like magic, darling. Like a beautiful fairytale in full bloom. Everyone's mesmerised, talking about the beautiful bride. You just know that everyone is dreaming of the iconic gown.
I’ve been lucky enough to see it in real life, and trust me, it was divine! The lace, the volume, the romance… just breath-taking. I'm still swooning, thinking of its majestic elegance. Can't you just imagine the intricate designs, the delicate fabric swirling like a ballerina's dress? You can practically smell the fragrant blooms surrounding the dress... a real celebration of classic English elegance and artistry.
But back to tutus, because, of course, I can't be a true TutuTuesday blogger without a tutu twist. I like to think Diana Spencer was a bit of a secret Tutu girl, don’t you? She may not have worn one on the big day, but those voluminous sleeves on that iconic dress? It just makes me want to imagine them fluttering like a tutu!
Oh, I'm drifting… must get back to the 1981 thread. Now, tutus at this time… were still very much a classical ballerina’s favourite! Imagine this: you are stepping out into a bustling, vibrant London theater. Lights twinkle, anticipation hangs thick in the air. You enter the Grand Circle, and the atmosphere just sparkles. You can already see a glimpse of the swirling tutus under the spotlight, their beauty accentuated by the play of light and shadows. I can almost smell the beeswax candles lighting the plush red velvet seats - it was quite the luxurious experience.
And speaking of experience, I took a beautiful journey on the London underground! So fancy - they have their very own theatre trains with plush seats! It's just a bit of added drama to a day already bursting with enchantment. The music in the air already had me twirling, oh it was pure magic, really!
Don’t you agree that the perfect pink tutu is just about the perfect way to embrace the sheer fun and glamour of it all? This period had this incredible blend of classical ballet traditions and emerging modern trends that made tutu style so exciting, and of course, all that was topped off with a dose of royal romance. Now, if only those grand wedding gowns could be tutus! A dream come true…
