#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - February 9th 1982 - Post #7833

Hello my dearest tutu-loving friends! It's Tuesday again, which means it's time for another fabulous trip through ballet history with your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller - that's me, Emma!

This week we're stepping back to February 9th, 1982, a date that holds some truly exciting news for ballet fans! Iā€™m in New York City, the beating heart of American ballet, and itā€™s positively buzzing with excitement! The air is electric with the thrill of "A Chorus Line, " a masterpiece of modern dance which has become an absolute phenomenon. This Broadway show is practically an institution, it's so popular it's now a film, a Broadway musical AND a book. The story of those hopeful young dancers - it truly captures the essence of ballet. Oh, how I yearn to be among those talented souls, performing in front of the bright lights!

But before I start daydreaming too much, letā€™s chat about our beloved tutus! Now, 1982 marks an interesting point in tutu history! Ballet is constantly evolving, you know? While classic tutus like the "Romantic tutu," (with those lovely airy layers!) still have their place on stage, there's also this wonderful exploration of new styles. We're seeing more modern, abstract designs in the spotlight - tutus that are more free-flowing, expressive, and perhaps, dare I say it? Less "poofy".

That's not to say traditional tutus have disappeared entirely. A well-constructed, graceful tutu is timeless and elegant! I mean, you can't go wrong with the traditional form. Especially not with the right pink tutu! You're looking absolutely fabulous in one, dear readers. Yes, you! šŸ˜‰

Anyway, enough of my rambling!

I had a fabulous morning taking a dance class, so very inspired by this 1980s New York dance scene. It was a class called ā€œJazz Dance for Ballet Studentsā€. Can you imagine! You can never be too trained for these styles. Oh how I love my little twirls, so stylish! They add that extra 'oomph' to any tutu outfit.

Itā€™s so great to get inspired by different styles ā€“ even though I think a perfect pink tutu looks divine on everyone, in all those styles. So, just imagine whatā€™s next for ballet fashion! What do you think, darling? Maybe theyā€™ll use fabrics that glow in the dark or perhaps theyā€™ll incorporate augmented reality in some formā€¦ wink

And before I let you go for the day, donā€™t forget to stop by my favourite little store called ā€˜Dancing Through Timeā€™. They have an exquisite collection of vintage tutus. Imagine, they're probably as old as some of the great dancers of yesteryear. They even have one from 1927 - talk about chic. Iā€™m absolutely delighted, a beautiful little cream coloured oneā€¦ so simple, so graceful, just stunning!

I know you love a bargain, dear friends, and luckily for us this shop often holds discount days so do check the website to see when. It is an absolute must for any tutu-lover like yourself!

Now, dear readers, go and embrace your inner ballerina. And, of course, wear that gorgeous pink tutu, as we continue to spread the magic of ballet!

Donā€™t forget, every day can be #TutuTuesday!

Love,

Emma x

P.S. Keep an eye on my blog next week. I'm going to take a journey through the evolution of tutus ā€“ itā€™s going to be so fun and interesting! And, who knows, maybe even find another delightful, vintage pink one in the process!
