Tutu Tuesday #7834: A Blast from the Past (1982-02-16)

Hello my lovely tutu-loving darlings! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another trip through time on my beloved pink-tutu-clad travels. Today we're taking a little jaunt back to 1982, a glorious year in tutu history.

Oh my goodness, you wouldn't believe the excitement of being in Paris for the 1982 Prix de Lausanne, the prestigious ballet competition that brought together the brightest stars of tomorrow. My word, the tutus! Each and every dancer had a vision of their own, shimmering and spinning on stage in a dazzling array of colour and style. Imagine! There were beautiful hand-painted silks, delicate lace accents, and, of course, the oh-so-romantic tulle. It was enough to make my heart skip a beat!

But Paris wasn't just about the competitions! There was Ballet Opéra de Paris at the Palais Garnier, which had been graced by a whole host of phenomenal ballerinas, not just on this date in history but through all its illustrious history. I felt an overwhelming urge to try out the stage! What an absolute dream, just imagine being on that beautiful stage in a stunning tutu, performing in the heart of Paris!

You see, darlings, the sheer elegance of a well-chosen tutu goes far beyond the dance floor, although that’s undoubtedly where it shines brightest. 1982 was also a fantastic year for all things fashionable, and Paris was the perfect place to soak it all in! We saw power shoulders, big hair, leg warmers, and the rise of the iconic leg warmers as a fashionable essential! My inner fashionista was screaming in delight. And speaking of iconic styles, you simply can't talk about 1982 fashion without mentioning Princess Diana’s iconic look. Those amazing outfits, each more fabulous than the last, are pure sartorial inspiration. Oh, how I wish I could try on some of those gorgeous dresses!

My goodness, speaking of trying things on, let’s take a little walk to the Galeries Lafayette. I could spend all day here. This luxurious Parisian department store was bursting with the very best of 1980s fashion, so I felt utterly obligated to delve into the fashion wonders. I do love a spot of shopping for a tutu or two! Especially if they're pink. The French, darling, they truly understand how to add a dash of drama to even the simplest of looks. Oh, my sweet tutu collection could barely handle all this loveliness.

The joy of time travel is seeing what trends get brought back round and round – because they usually do. And, of course, that doesn't apply to the lovely old tutus from the 1980s that we were able to uncover. In a dusty attic tucked away from the Parisian buzz we discovered an authentic collection from that incredible period of dance and design! I must admit I snapped a few of the best for my own ever-expanding tutu collection, don’t worry – I always keep a few special items just for me. It's important to support your tutu collection, you know, it’s the only one you’ve got!

Oh, and let’s not forget the iconic 1980s music! Dancing the night away to Blondie or The Cure in a perfect pink tutu just hits that spot. My dancing, by the way, is not the best, I can’t promise you that. However, with a well-chosen tutu, even my wobbly attempts at elegance can't help but inspire confidence! That, my sweet darlings, is the true power of a pink tutu - the ability to make you feel unstoppable, beautiful and confident no matter what!

It’s no wonder I love traveling back in time so much – the beauty, the energy, the inspiration - it's just breathtaking. Plus, who can say no to a delightful pink tutu and a grand trip to Paris? Not me! I’ll be sure to pop back in time again soon to discover more fun fashion history, and keep the dream of all the amazing tutus that history has ever known, alive. Remember, it’s always tutu-time, wherever you may be. See you next week, darlings, until then, wear pink, dance like no one is watching, and be your own magnificent, radiant self!

Love, Emma
