#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 8th March 1983 - Post Number 7889

Hello my darling dears! Emma here, back again with another jaunt into the wonderful world of tutus, and let me tell you, this week's adventure is quite the treat! Iā€™m currently perched in my darling pink tutu (this one's a sweetie - silk, ruffles, and a colour so pink it's practically blush-worthy), in my favourite Parisian cafĆ©, watching the world go by and feeling utterly inspired!

You know, my journey back to the 8th of March 1983 has really given me food for thought! It's a time of absolute joy when it comes to tutus, don't you think? And don't you love how, just like us in 2023, fashion trends then, like our love for ballet and tutus, are just continually making a comeback?

Just yesterday, I found myself at a beautiful ballet performance here in Paris. It was incredible! The artistry was simply stunning, and you could really tell how much effort went into creating those beautiful sets and costumes. Of course, itā€™s only natural for the tutus to be an essential part of this story! Every one, oh my! Absolutely beautiful! Let me tell you, they had everything in the world of tutu - the classical tutus with their traditional panniers (remember the fluffy under skirts to create that bell shape?) were stunning, the romantic tutus with all their soft layers were oh so delicate, and even those beautiful tutus with their short whirl and their beautiful tulle just felt completely magical!

But let's take a little peek back at the 8th March 1983 to see just whatā€™s happening with these iconic skirts that continue to inspire and mesmerize us all...

As I always say - "Life's too short for blah tutus, darling! " Just ask my family in my beautiful village of Bakewell in Derbyshire, England - they always know that pink tutus will brighten their day! I do love the Derbyshire countryside - but there's simply nothing quite like a magical day at the ballet, is there?!

Oh! Where was I? The 8th March, 1983 - What fabulous events were happening?

Well, in the wonderful world of ballet - the English National Ballet Company was busy in London at the Sadler's Wells Theatre! They were bringing a captivating performance of La Sylphide to the stage. You can just imagine - beautiful ballerinas twirling in their white tutus, and the dreamy romantic story - what's not to love, really?!

And speaking of tutus, can you imagine that on this date - 39 years ago now, - a very important new film was released in the cinema? Yes, itā€™s none other than ā€œStaying Aliveā€, the sequel to the very famous Saturday Night Fever which had made a star of John Travolta, (He looked simply dreamy dancing in his pinstripe suit - which was sooo fashionable back in 1977.) The fashion and dancing of this movie was utterly iconic! Do you think it was as good as the first, darling? Well I must have had my nose pressed to the shop window, as I was a teen back then and I absolutely loved this film and still adore all its music. And as far as the dancing went - how much did you love that tutu they designed in this super-famous scene - The Charleston for that iconic Tutu scene, - oh so exciting, so magical, and so utterly dramatic. Canā€™t you just see the swirling tulle in that wonderful shot with those amazing dancing shoes. A real wow! The tutu just simply became part of the character, and so utterly fitting, like that beautiful, glamorous 1920ā€™s scene. What a *great use of the tutu icon, in my opinion, for this movie - bravo, bravo.

Oh, and did you know, darling? On this date all those years ago, the very famous actor Christopher Reeve married his beautiful, elegant, darling wife Dana. Isn't that simply lovely? Did you see Superman? I absolutely loved it. It is my favorite film! Iā€™m thinking this marriage would have been a great inspiration to everyone and the perfect reminder to take a chance on love and enjoy it to the fullest. A perfect celebration of life and how, just like in a dance or in a marriage, a great story should have a beginning, a middle and an unforgettable happy ending . Lovely

And then just imagine this darling! If we were on a grand train journeying around Europe, we could have possibly been enjoying the lovely train ride to Milan. What an amazing train journey! My dream is to be sitting in my darling pink tutu , drinking pink champagne, while dreaming of all the fashion Iā€™m going to see at Milan Fashion Week. The train would be our personal stage, where the view outside would transform into our show. And you know me, my dears, I always love a good ballet, a fashion show, and a trip on the grand train. So what a lovely coincidence - that the journey would have started on this day - on March the 8th. I'll have to make this happen, don't you think? Oh how fabulous.

You know, the 1980's are a really exciting time, darling - what with the vibrant, colourful, big 80s' fashion (think shoulder pads, leggings, and bold jewellery). But oh my, there are so many reasons to adore the tutus!

And just imagine my dear - that same week the beautiful Madonna - the pop queen released a brand new music video - 'Lucky Star'. Her fashion! - she always got it right! She had such a unique style that set her apart. But she still adored the iconic tutu as a style staple.

As you know, dancing in tutus has to be one of the best things ever in the world! But who knew, darling, it had that much impact on fashion? That it truly became a huge style inspiration! The Tutu is so popular and everyone loves to wear it! So inspiring. And how lucky we are that we get to join the fun today!

Do join me again next week, my darlings, as we continue journeying through time - you can be sure there will be more fabulous fashion and tutu magic!

For now, do remember - lifeā€™s simply too short to live without a little magic. So donā€™t forget to wear your pink tutu, get creative, have some fun and just simply dance to your heartā€™s content!

Have a wonderful week. And do tell me - what's your favourite way to wear your tutu? Please let me know in the comments section below - Iā€™d love to hear from you. Love and sparkles

Emma x
