Tutu Tuesday: A Blast From the Past - #7890
Hello my darling tutu enthusiasts! Emma here, back with another fabulous foray into the wonderful world of the tutu! Today, we’re time-traveling to 15th March 1983 - a glorious day in history, and certainly a day worth revisiting for us tutu lovers.
Now, I know what you’re thinking - how did I get here? Well, as usual, the magical world of ballet made it possible! This time, I found myself dancing in a breathtaking show at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. I mean, just imagine: the stunning architecture, the roaring applause, the graceful dancers swirling in exquisite tutus - the whole experience was utterly fabulous! The entire atmosphere buzzed with a sense of anticipation and wonder - just as it should be for every ballet performance!
But back to our history lesson…
This time period in 1983 saw ballet continuing its evolution towards the exciting future it has in store for us today. The 1980s was an era where ballerinas and ballet companies across the globe pushed the boundaries of what a tutu could be. It was the start of incorporating more modern and unconventional styles into ballet costume design.
Imagine this – a symphony of movement punctuated by vibrant tutus, the likes of which hadn't been seen before! They played with new materials, unconventional shapes, and vibrant colours - creating a true revolution in ballet wardrobe. And who knows, some of these ground-breaking tutu trends may have even found their way into the shops and the dance floors in London! It would be fantastic to look back through fashion magazines and see if there is any connection, wouldn’t it?
And who knows what other tutu fashion innovations are waiting to be discovered? Maybe even a tutu for a man! That’s right, gentlemen - imagine a tutu so elegant and stylish that it would be impossible to resist. Who knows, perhaps in this very blog post we could set off a new trend of male tutus! What could be more empowering?
Now, back to our trip to 1983. As always, after an enthralling performance, I couldn't resist venturing into the nearby shops. Moscow is such a fascinating city for ballet fashion - full of vibrant, beautiful shops bursting with everything from opulent sequined gowns to stunning shoes fit for the finest ballerina. The shop windows were filled with a dazzling array of colours and fabrics, reminding me how vital a tutu is to the joy and excitement of ballet!
One store that really caught my eye was packed full of breathtakingly beautiful vintage ballet shoes and costumes, from tiny, velvet pointe shoes to cascading layers of tutus that I would love to have on my shelves at home! The delicate craftsmanship of these items brought a wave of nostalgia, and reminded me just how powerful ballet fashion can be. Each delicate layer of tulle, each tiny sequin, represents an element of artistry and craftsmanship that deserve to be cherished and admired.
Of course, after an evening spent shopping and indulging my ballet passion, it wouldn’t be a proper visit to Moscow without an exquisite cup of Russian tea, especially with a few delicious and decadent pastries! And it wouldn’t be a proper day of travelling without a wonderful ride on a luxurious train! Just think of the grandeur of the compartment with those plush red seats - such a classic, timeless elegance!
15th March 1983 truly felt like a day when ballet fashion was embracing new ideas and truly flourishing. It was inspiring, beautiful, and fun!
As we move towards the present, let us remember the history of the tutu – it’s a history that stretches from the romantic ballerinas of the past to the bold and expressive dancers of today. So, join me in my love for the tutu, and embrace the spirit of adventure that every tutu whispers!
And as always, let’s make every day a Tutu Tuesday!
