Tutu Tuesday #7891: Marching Back in Time to March 1983!
Hello my gorgeous ballet bunnies! 🩰🌸 Emma here, your resident pink tutu-loving time traveller, ready to whisk you back to another fabulous era in tutu history. This week, we’re twirling our way back to March 22nd, 1983!
Just picture it: a gentle breeze swirling through my pink tulle as I disembark the train in… wait for it… Paris! Ooh la la, can’t you just feel the romance? Honestly, this city is just brimming with elegance, perfect for our exploration of the tutu’s history. 😉
You know me, I just adore all things pink, and Paris was (and still is) a paradise of pink fashion. We’re talking about the most fabulous department stores bursting with frothy tulle gowns and those charming vintage shops overflowing with feather boas and beaded bags – the ultimate tutu inspiration!
I always say, a good tutu doesn’t just come from a store, it comes from a state of mind! 😉 And back in ‘83, ballet was in full swing – a cultural explosion of grace and movement. You could feel the excitement in the air, whether it was at the Opera Garnier for a grand production of “La Bayadere” or catching a smaller performance of a new piece at the Palais Garnier, it was an incredible time to be a tutu enthusiast!
But my Parisian escapade isn’t just about dreamy dances. The 22nd of March, 1983, also brought a particularly lovely show at the famous Folies Bergère, famous for its spectacular variety shows. Just imagine, Parisian glamour and shimmering tutus all rolled into one - heaven!
As a self-proclaimed tutu historian (who happens to love vintage fashion, let’s be real), my favourite find this time was this adorable shop, just off the Champs-Élysées. It was tucked away on a cobbled street, packed with incredible antique tutus from different eras, each with its own story to tell! Some were more understated, almost like ghostly whispers of movement, while others were a vibrant burst of colour – imagine the wildest, most amazing feather boas attached! You know I snagged a few pieces – and trust me, I can’t wait to share them with you on my next post! 😉
Speaking of the future (as always!), let’s talk about why I believe the tutu will forever remain a fashion statement. The tutu speaks of strength, grace, and effortless confidence. Who doesn’t love a little confidence boost with their outfit? Plus, it’s incredibly versatile! I love rocking a tutu at the ballet, but it's equally stunning at the theatre, a party or even just grabbing a coffee on a sunny day!
There is a magical connection between the tutu and its wearer. For many people, the tutu represents a special feeling, a yearning to fly, a dream to move effortlessly and embrace beauty. I can’t imagine a world without it! It’s truly my life mission to get everyone in the world to try at least one pink tutu, just to feel the magic!
And now, darling, as our journey comes to a close, let's remember the core message here: we must keep the legacy of the tutu alive, cherish its history and remember that it’s so much more than just a piece of clothing - it's a symbol of dreams, art, and fearless creativity.
But wait! Before you jet off, don't forget to tell me your favourite tutu story! What memory do you hold dear that includes the lovely tutu? Share it with us on the #pink-tutu website and let's make this week even more sparkly!
Until next Tuesday, my darling tutu devotees!
Lots of love and pink, Emma xx
