Tutu Tuesday #7895: A Blast from the Past - 19th April 1983! 🩰💖

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, Emma, back again with another fabulous #TutuTuesday adventure!

Today, I've whisked myself back to the glorious year of 1983, a time when shoulder pads were high, leg warmers were a must-have, and tutus were taking the world by storm! I'm just thrilled to be sharing this wonderful decade with you all. I love this time, it's absolutely bursting with beautiful fashion. From the vibrant hues of neon, the sharp cuts of power dressing, to the undeniable flair of 80s ballet, this period is a visual treat! And of course, tutus were centre stage – literally!

Now, let's rewind the clock and dive into the world of tutus on this fine 19th April!

Tutus and Theatre: The Stage is Set!

1983 was a golden age for ballet, and tutus were having a moment. Let’s just say, these weren’t your basic black tutus – think romantic, dreamy, whimsical designs, a whole new level of tulle-tastic fabulousness!

Picture this: On this very day, in the grand Royal Opera House in London, they were holding a breathtaking production of "The Sleeping Beauty" – a fairy-tale come to life. Can you imagine? Such gorgeous costumes! The corps de ballet swirling in those classic romantic tutus, all shades of pink and lavender… absolutely breathtaking! I imagine a whirlwind of tulle, exquisite ballet moves, and maybe a touch of sparkle as the prima ballerina twirled under a magnificent chandelier… pure ballet bliss!

Speaking of the Royal Opera House, wouldn't it be utterly divine to be seated in the grand auditorium on this day? Imagine the velvet seats, the elegant crowd, and of course, the mesmerising magic of live ballet. I'd love to travel back in time just for this show. Who’s with me?!

The Tutus Go Street-Style!

It wasn't just on the stage where tutus were a star! 1983 was a period where street style was breaking free and bold, and the tutu was one of the most vibrant trends at the time. Imagine the daring women in London sporting tutu skirts with neon leggings, oversized sweatshirts, and bold statement jewellery. You might have even spotted them paired with eye-catching platform heels.

What was it about tutus that made them so irresistible? Perhaps it was the feminine flair, the soft textures, the sense of freedom and fun.

You see, for me, tutus are more than just garments - they are expressions of artistry and empowerment. They're a reminder that we can create beauty and joy wherever we go! They just make life so much more… well… fun! And in 1983, everyone was feeling that energy!

Ballet Classes: From the Stage to the Studio

Even the ballet studios of 1983 were awash in the tutu wave! Remember those adorable short tutus in all the bright and cheerful colours - the ones with the fluffy, gathered ruffles? These tutus, the embodiment of classic dancewear, were essential in every little ballerina's life. It's so exciting to see how a trend takes hold in this way, right through to ballet lessons for children and beginners,

It reminds me, darling, of a particular ballet class in Derbyshire (my neck of the woods!) from those years – a quaint studio in a tiny, quaint village where I absolutely fell in love with the graceful movements. Every Wednesday, we'd be twirling in our pink, yellow, and white tutus - and just the anticipation before those classes would get my heart pumping ! The ballet teacher, Mrs. Hawkins, a strict but kind soul, taught us so much, from the perfect plié to the art of grand jeté. You couldn't imagine how thrilled we felt every time we nailed that last movement. It was simply pure bliss.

I believe every ballet enthusiast should experience the magic of a traditional ballet studio with their tutus on at least once. Those memories - they just stay with you!

The Legacy of the 80s Tutu: Timeless Trends

Now, I don't want you to think the magic of tutus is lost in the past. You're just as likely to see stylish tutus gracing the catwalks and fashion pages today! Tutus are not just a trend, darling, they’re a classic. A statement.

This week, my fashion inspiration comes directly from 1983. Imagine a delicate pink tutu, styled with a sleek, modern leather jacket, a statement gold necklace, and classic ballet pumps. Dare I suggest, a touch of blush pink makeup with an unexpected pop of 80s-inspired neon? That's what I call bringing the past to life with a fabulous contemporary twist!

But what’s really so amazing about these classic designs from 1983? Their simplicity, the airy beauty of the fabric, the way they embrace movement… it's a look you can recreate with anything in your wardrobe. They truly embody timeless style.

I always believe you can make a statement even in a ballet studio. Maybe I’m just a tad biased in the whole tutu department! I’m certainly never short on tutu inspiration.
