Tutu Tuesday: #7896 - A Blast from the Past, 1983-04-26!
Hello my darlings, and welcome to another #TutuTuesday journey through time with your favourite tutu-loving time traveller, Emma! 🩰💖
This week, I'm taking you all the way back to 26th April 1983. Now, you might think that doesn't sound terribly glamorous, but believe me, darling, tutus were flourishing in those days! Let's take a peek behind the velvet curtain, shall we?
Before I spill the deets, it’s been so much fun dashing about the world lately. It’s just thrilling to see how fashion, and our beloved tutus, evolve through the ages. I just hopped off the Orient Express in Venice, darling, where I witnessed the most exquisite ballet production set against a backdrop of glittering canals. Honestly, I swear it could have been ripped straight from a fairytale! 💖 The tutus were simply divine – all fluffy, multicoloured affairs with the most elegant designs I’ve ever seen! The dancing was equally magical, of course, because *there’s nothing more enchanting than a tutu twirling in the air! *🩰💫
Now, back to our journey back in time to 1983! Back then, the world was abuzz with excitement for a very special dance event. Yes, darlings, a certain Mikhail Baryshnikov was performing! If you don’t know that name, my dears, then I’ve truly got a lot of catching up to do! Mikhail was THE legend, the pinnacle of ballet. Honestly, his moves could leave even the most jaded dancer gasping for air. Effortless, graceful, and full of captivating power.
And you know what, it wasn't just ballet performances that were dazzling people back then. Fashion was on FIRE too! We were living in the age of “New Romanticism”, which meant flowing fabrics, shimmering sequins, and lots of ruffles – you bet I was rocking them all! *But most importantly, darlings, there was a serious resurgence of the tulle explosion, thanks to the resurgence of interest in romantic ballet. Think ethereal, soft pink tutus in soft chiffon, paired with dramatic velvet jackets. Oh, the dream! 💖 We even had those ultra-fluffy “balloon” tutus, the kind that make you look like you're ready to float off into the sky. Honestly, those days were like stepping straight into a romantic ballet performance – which is exactly why we were all head-over-heels for them. 😍
Speaking of dreamland, my own wardrobe has been a sight to behold these last few weeks. I snagged a pair of divine ballet shoes from an old vintage shop in Paris, they're perfect for twirling in – can’t wait to try them out in a Parisian park with a classic 1930s French tutu for my next #TutuTuesday post! I've been a real princess, picking up new, divine tutus wherever I go – think embroidered details, sequins, everything sparkly, a little lace detailing. Honestly, darling, these tutus make me feel like a magical fairytale creature! 💖 I even managed to grab the most stunning sequined black tutu on my last jaunt through New York - oh, the glamour! I might have even broken a bank or two getting my hands on those beauties – it was truly an investment for my love of all things tulle, my darlings! 💖
My trip back to 1983 actually had me reflecting on the amazing journey of tutus, don’t you think? From the early 1800s, where it all began as those romantic and graceful skirts for the ballerinas, all the way to the present day with these amazing tutu designs that would leave even the most demanding ballerina captivated! It really does show that a tutu is a classic - one of those fashion statements that transcends trends!
Of course, my personal favourite is the pink tutu – just like the ones I’ve always loved wearing here on Pink-Tutu.com! And what’s even more amazing, darling, is that a pink tutu really can go anywhere and anywhere.
The great thing about the pink tutu, is that it can be styled with pretty much anything! It works with just about any outfit. For my time travels in Paris last week, it was a vibrant pink tulle tutu with a vintage Parisian jacket - that, paired with a jaunty little beret - divine! 💫 Or you could think more daring, try a long, graceful tulle skirt in a gorgeous fuchsia shade – with some black leather or a cool denim jacket. This isn't about the colours you chose, it’s about adding a dash of magic to any outfit! 😉
And to bring things full circle back to 1983, darling, remember to have a good time with it! That’s what really makes the fashion fantastic - even those vintage looks you might have unearthed at a thrift shop or from a friend’s dusty wardrobe! Channel the “New Romantic” look with those bold, flowing materials. And most importantly, add some gorgeous pink tutus to your wardrobe today!* It's all about self-expression, darlings. Embrace it, wear those tutus with confidence and make everyone around you smile with your *tutu fabulous flair! 💖🩰💫
Okay, darlings, that's all from me for today! Don’t forget to follow me on Pink-Tutu.com to see where my time travels take me next. I hope you all have the most wonderful tutu Tuesday! And remember to spread the tutu love - share your pink tutu adventures on social media, hashtag #pinktutu, let's all keep the sparkle and wonder alive! 💕
With love and twirls,
Emma 💖
