This week, we're jetting off to New York City, my fellow tutu enthusiasts! 🍎🗽 The date? March 6th, 1984. It's the day the world gets a little more sparkly, and we get to dive into the magical world of tutus in the heart of the Big Apple.
My travel budget has been boosted by a delightful performance of Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House. I have to say, the White Act tutu was absolutely stunning. I could barely contain my excitement and, in the most ladylike way possible, I squealed at the perfect execution of the swans’ "chassé," it was pure perfection! 🤩🩰
Anyway, back to New York! As a vintage-loving, pink-loving ballet buff, this trip has me positively giddy. The year is 1984, and tutus in New York are blooming like a gorgeous floral bouquet. You know what? We have a date with the Metropolitan Opera to see what glorious tutu creations they have in store for us this evening!
The Big Apple, known for its vibrant culture and even more vibrant fashion scene, is buzzing with tutu-tastic trends. It's a world where ballet dancers are not only seen on stage but also strutting the streets with a fabulous sense of style. Fashion is bold, playful, and with just a hint of theatricality - exactly what our pink hearts crave! 💕
So, imagine my delight when I arrive in the Big Apple on a gloriously sunny March morning! ☀️ I take the train to a bustling station and hop into a yellow cab. Yes, I know, very glamorous. 🚕 And guess what? I actually manage to squeeze my ballet bag into the boot - my fellow tutu wearers know that these are essential for any outing.
First things first - a trip to Bergdorf Goodman to find the perfect pink satin tutu! We simply have to pay homage to the famous, whimsical "Pink Lady" costume worn by the incredible, legendary choreographer, Twyla Tharp. It's so inspiring! 🥰✨ I can just imagine how absolutely stunning it would be with a pair of those fabulous pink high heels I spied earlier.
This time period marks the start of a beautiful movement of incorporating elements of ballet and dance into everyday life. From dancewear as streetwear to tutus at social gatherings, the ballerina is becoming a new icon of style and creativity. 👠
And to be completely honest, what's not to love about a touch of elegance and whimsy? 🥰

The designs became more contemporary, with bolder colours, asymmetric shapes, and daring combinations of fabrics. Now, hold onto your hats! Did you know that the Ballet Couture exhibition just opened its doors here in the Big Apple? I simply have to see the show - imagine an exhibition devoted to the exquisite, and utterly impractical, art of the ballet tutu! It’s a dream! 💖
From the ethereal romance of Swan Lake to the bolder, contemporary expressions of modern ballet, New York City is truly a playground for the tutu enthusiast. And, oh my goodness, have I mentioned the New York City Ballet? Just yesterday, I watched the mesmerizing Symphony in C. The performance was so electrifying! The tutus were a dazzling array of colour and movement - and it was simply impossible not to twirl right along with the dancers. It was quite exhilarating, wouldn't you agree? ✨🩰
As for me, my tutu is not just a wardrobe staple, it's a badge of honour! It signifies a sense of joy, freedom, and a playful attitude. And, in this age of creativity and experimentation, tutus are embracing the boldest trends and adding a touch of fairytale charm to even the most mundane activities! 💖
Today, I might wear my pink tutu to a street fair, maybe go for a spot of lunch at the Café Luxembourg. There's even a rumor that a Tutu Tuesday dance-off is planned for the famous Union Square park! I have the perfect bright pink tulle number that’s perfect for spinning and twirling – think of all those fab photographs we can capture. You might say I'm living for the #tutulife! 🎉🤩

Well, darlings, I've just had a call for a private ballet performance in the city. Apparently, a prominent ballet enthusiast wants to surprise her granddaughters with a little performance and, well, let's just say my calendar is starting to fill up rather nicely. 😉
