TutuTuesday #7960: A Blast from the Past - July 17th, 1984
Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, back again for another #TutuTuesday! I hope you're all ready for a delightful journey through time, because today we're heading back to 1984 - a year bursting with bright colours, bold styles, and of course, fabulous tutus!
As you know, my heart beats for tutus, and nothing delights me more than exploring their history. This week, I've packed my trusty vintage suitcase with a blush pink, silk number that whispers of a bygone era. It's got just the right amount of ruffles and a floaty, ethereal feel, perfect for a trip back to the 1980s!
Before we delve into the tutu fashion scene of 1984, I simply must confess I have a secret obsession... trains. Honestly, what's more glamorous than whizzing through the countryside in a sleek, mahogany carriage, my tutu swishing gently in the breeze? Luckily, I manage to fuel my passion for travel (and those vintage shopping sprees) with my dance performances. It's the perfect life, if you ask me!
So, back to the tutu of the day! The 1980s were an absolute explosion of tutus, darling! Remember that dazzling "Flashdance" scene? Well, imagine those sleek lines with a sprinkle of pink and a whole lotta tulle, and you've got the perfect 80s ballerina.
But hold on, this wasn't all about professional tutus. Think pink and yellow polka-dotted fabrics, puffy sleeves, and, dare I say, leggings (the early ones were all about the neon and lycra!). It was all about experimentation and playful, bright styles! Oh, how I miss those carefree, fun-loving 80s days.
But what was the ballet world doing on July 17th, 1984?
Well, imagine, darling, a breathtaking performance by Rudolf Nureyev. He was absolutely at the peak of his career back then! Now, that’s what I call an unforgettable show. If you had the chance to watch Nureyev in the flesh, I’m sure you’ll agree, you were truly witnessing ballet history.
Today’s Fashion Fix:
Remember, fashion is about finding what works for you. I don't have a rigid 'rules are rules' attitude - it's about individual style. This week, let's inject a splash of vintage fun into our wardrobes. We can incorporate elements of 80s fashion without drowning ourselves in polka dots. Think pops of pink and some playful patterns, just a subtle wink to the past.
Here’s my challenge for you this week: Try finding an old, almost-forgotten piece of clothing. Maybe it’s an oversized shirt with puffed sleeves from a distant relative, or even a funky old ballet bag (remember those sequin-laden marvels!). Don't be afraid to give it a modern twist!
Until next time, darlings, let's keep those tutus twirling and embrace the vibrant world of ballet history! Don't forget to share your vintage finds with me on my Instagram and Twitter, #TutuTuesday and tag @Emma_PinkTutu. I’d love to hear your style stories.
And remember, darlings, a little sprinkle of pink is all you need to make your day sparkle!
