#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A 1984 Spin! 🩰

Hello my gorgeous ballet-loving darlings! πŸ’– It's Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, back with another scintillating edition of #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History. Today, we're jetting back in time to the vibrant year of 1984. Grab your pinkest ballet shoes, my lovelies, and let's step into a world of big hair, even bigger shoulder pads, and of course, glorious tutus!

This week, dear readers, we're focusing on the 11th of September, 1984. And let me tell you, it was a date bursting with fabulousness. On this very day, the ballet world was in a flurry of excitement, because guess what? It was the premiere of the most gorgeous rendition of "The Nutcracker" I have ever seen! I tell you, the tutus! The costumes! It was all so gloriously festive. Just imagine a swirl of reds and golds, a symphony of sequins, and enough tulle to fill a whole ballroom. ✨

Now, my darlings, as you know, tutus are a little bit like the Queen – they just own the spotlight! And what a treat this production of "The Nutcracker" provided. Each dancer swished and twirled in their own personal cloud of delicate tulle, with a smile that could melt a snowman. Remember those tutus that puffed up like marshmallow clouds at the back? Oh, those were absolutely divine! So much volume, so much romance!

I've been following this particular production across the globe for years – I simply cannot get enough of it! But I have to tell you, the energy and spirit of 1984 took the performance to another level entirely. It was electric! ⚑️

So what was I wearing, you ask? I know, you're dying to hear all the details, right? πŸ’… Well, dear readers, I was dressed to the nines, naturally! I chose a sparkly, vibrant pink tutu with delicate lace ruffles - just perfect for a ballet outing! You simply can't go wrong with pink, can you? After all, it's the colour of passion, of excitement, of boundless joy! And just imagine – I've worn it to the most breathtaking ballet performances around the globe!

Now, as a true fan of the theatrical, I simply must talk about this era's trend for elaborate, glitzy stage design. It was absolutely spectacular, especially with the booming soundtracks of 80s pop and rock bands – they just amplified the drama! 🎀 πŸ’ƒ Even the theatre seating was a sight to behold, all velvet plush and twinkling lights! Honestly, it felt like being in a glamorous bubble, away from all the hustle and bustle. And the crowds? They were mesmerised! Even after the curtain fell, everyone was chatting away about the costumes, the music, the sheer magical artistry of it all.

But my dear fashionistas, our journey through the history of the ballet tutu doesn’t stop there. After my whirlwind journey back to 1984, it was time to take the train, you guessed it, in my lovely pink tutu (it never comes off, it’s like a second skin, really!) back to my favourite part of my world, Derbyshire! It's one of the most enchanting places I've ever seen. I've spent countless happy hours wandering around those picturesque village streets and, of course, enjoying the delicious, local bake shops, all the while feeling the beauty and inspiration all around me. I was lucky to bump into the fabulous designer of my favorite, one-off tutu – it was a collaboration! He's been in the business for decades and has such an exquisite touch. So of course, I snagged an entire trunk full of amazing pieces for my website, pink-tutu.com. πŸ‘— You know how much I adore shopping and it just feels fantastic being surrounded by so much creative energy.

Speaking of energy, that's exactly what I'm brimming with for the next #TutuTuesday! Join me, darlings, for a journey to an era just as thrilling! Don't forget to check out my Instagram page, where you'll find even more tutu-licious goodness. See you all next Tuesday, darlings! Don't forget your tutus! πŸ’–
