Tutu Tuesday: A Blast From The Past! #7999
Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, back with another thrilling edition of Tutu Tuesday! Today we're going on a delightful little time trip back to 1985, the year of big hair, shoulder pads, and yes, tutues galore! Buckle up, because we're about to dive into the enchanting world of tutus and the magic of the 80s.
(Disclaimer: Please don't worry, I'm not wearing my new hot pink tutu from Primark - that would be too shocking for 1985! Though honestly, maybe we should go for a 2023 vibe, just imagine, a splash of pink amongst all the leg warmers!)
For this particular #TutuTuesday, my time machine took me straight to New York City. The city that never sleeps was positively brimming with culture, with iconic Broadway shows like 'Cats' and 'Phantom of the Opera' gracing the stage, each more extravagant than the last! Can you imagine the sheer drama of the tutus in those productions? Oh, the feathers! The sparkles! The sheer size of them all!
But I wasn't just focusing on the Broadway glitter. A little birdie told me (not really, it was a magical time travelling pigeon) that on the 16th of April 1985, the legendary New York City Ballet was premiering a new production of 'The Sleeping Beauty', based on the story by none other than Tchaikovsky himself! It's said that the show was positively spellbinding, with tutus that flowed and swirled as if they were woven from moonlight itself.
And that, my dears, is why I believe tutus were meant to dance. The delicate layers, the sheer elegance, the way they billow with every graceful movement⦠it's like poetry in motion, pure and beautiful.
But this trip was about more than just admiring tutus, though let's be honest, that's always a top priority! It was also about seeing how the style and culture of 1985 influenced tutus, both on stage and in our daily lives.
The 80s were a time of daring style. We saw bold colours, massive hairstyles, and a sense of confidence that was reflected in fashion choices. You couldn't escape neon hues, particularly pink!, a testament to the fact that pink has been trending forever! It's a truly universal language, perfect for expressing that inner ballerina in all of us.
I went shopping, naturally! (Because who could resist a little vintage tutu hunting, even if it was over 30 years ago? Oh, the possibilities!). Imagine a store bursting with over-the-top leg warmers in every colour, chunky bracelets, and the occasional pink tutu β yes, a dream! (Even if it did make my head spin just a little!)
Remember, it's not just about the tutu. It's about the feeling it inspires - joy, grace, and the sheer delight of expressing your unique inner ballerina.
Now, I'm back in the present, fuelled by my 80s time travel adventures. I've got to confess, it did make me even more passionate about promoting pink tutus everywhere! So let's celebrate everything tutu, embrace those big, bright colours, and remember, no matter where we are or when, it's always the perfect time to twirl in a beautiful tutu!
Catch you next week for more #TutuTuesday fun! Until then, wear your tutus with pride, my lovelies! ππ©°
