#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 1985-05-07!

Hello, darlings!

Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where all things pink and fluffy reign supreme. It's me, Emma, your friendly neighbourhood tutu-loving time traveller! And this Tuesday, we're pirouette-ing our way back to May 7th, 1985 for a whirlwind trip through tutu history! As always, it's all about the #TutuTuesday fun on this post number 8002 for my Ballet Tutu History blog, just like every Tuesday on www.pink-tutu.com!

1985...Oh what a year! This was a glorious era of oversized hair, shoulder pads that would rival a football player, and the birth of some of the most iconic ballet performances we still love to this day!

But for a girl like me, whose heart belongs to the tulle and the tiaras, let's focus on what's really important... the tutu!

So, darling, what was a tutu in 1985? Well, let's just say things were pretty different. Think traditional! Picture delicate layers of soft, shimmering tulle, carefully crafted to cascade down the ballerina’s legs.

This is long before the era of the tutu as an edgy street-wear item, oh darling! This was real ballet tutu, for the most part, in its original form! And, I must admit, I’m absolutely enthralled by it!

There were of course the classics! The iconic white tutus, with the perfectly positioned, swirling tiers. The tutu was definitely the star of the show, and these ballet designs brought out the very best of this!

But this year was all about those innovative, new ideas...the tutus were getting more daring, daring to be different, daring to be amazing!

Speaking of iconic... The Royal Ballet premiered the dazzling 'The Sleeping Beauty', right around this time. Imagine the dazzling costumes, the flowing tulle, the vibrant colours... it was absolute ballet heaven!

Oh my, what dreams to dance in those beautiful costumes! They sparkle and gleam as they turn and spin. I can almost hear the swish and whirl of the beautiful, gossamer tutus! Divine!

And let’s not forget the music... The magic of Tchaikovsky's score! Can you imagine? There were just so many fantastic things about this show... I’ve just got to go and have a look!

I’m whizzing back to the Royal Opera House, just a whirl away, to see what all the fuss is about. You can bet there’s a fantastic show tonight and some fantastic tutu costumes on display! You can't have one without the other, darling!

And what better way to celebrate the majesty of ballet and all the gorgeous tutu action than with a delicious, creamy, pink, strawberry and cream ice-cream? So yummy! A pink ballet themed afternoon tea sounds pretty good too! I'm just a bit sad it's too late for my afternoon tea now... so much for my quick ballet tour... oh, well! Perhaps I'll be back in the Royal Ballet very soon...

But hold your tutus darling, there's more! Now, where were we? Ah, yes, the fashion in 1985...

A word for the fabulous fashions... They’re simply *amazing! *

The bright colours and the enormous hairstyles... Oh my! This decade was so much fun to explore. And I simply have to try and bring some of those ideas back into my modern, pink wardrobe, I mean who doesn't love a big hairdo... just imagine if we all dressed like that today! What a dream!

And who can resist a classic pair of white dancing shoes... or the pink ribbon tie... and the beautiful and glamorous costumes for these ballerinas. Oh darling, you just know I'm going to add these pieces to my collection. My pink ballet tutu outfit will be just divine, if I say so myself...

Now let’s talk trains ! Of course, a railway journey is essential for my little adventures into the past, I adore the glamour and sophistication of travelling by rail.

Just imagine: white gloves, a smart hat and a fabulous matching coat… perfection! And let's be honest, what else can you really wear to make a grand entrance into 1985 except a fabulous pink tutu, right darling?

A journey through time... on the railways! That is what makes my travels through the centuries truly amazing, it's a story I’ll share with all of you soon. It’s a real whirlwind story to tell but it’ll have to wait for another blog, I think!

Speaking of whirls and swirls, darlings, remember my motto: "Life is a dance. It's about twirling, pirouette-ing, and wearing as much pink tulle as humanly possible!"

I have to go now but until next Tuesday, make sure you always have a twinkle in your eye and a pink tutu to call your own! I'm so grateful for all you beautiful dancers. You are the life and joy of this beautiful ballet world. Until next week!
