Tutu Tuesday #8001: Back to the Eighties! đ©°
Hello darlings, and welcome back to another Tutu Tuesday here on www.pink-tutu.com! It's your girl, Emma, and I'm absolutely giddy to take you on a trip back in time to the glorious 80s! This week, we're stepping back to 30th April, 1985, a date that was practically designed for twirling.
Iâm so excited for you guys. I managed to catch the Paris-Lyon express last night. It was a truly glamorous trip with the latest fashion, delicious food and some stunning performances. Now thatâs what I call travelling!
Just imagine: shoulder pads so big they could launch a rocket, leg warmers that stretched to infinity and beyond, and, of course, tutus of every colour imaginable! Oh, how we loved those bright, bold hues. Now I love a good pop of pink, of course, but the 80s embraced every shade of the rainbow and then some! The neon tutus were practically bursting with energy, don't you think?
Now, back to our date in time. 30th April, 1985, was a Tuesday. So imagine a Tutu Tuesday then! Can't you picture it? Paris was bubbling with excitement, with ballet performances galore!
This time period was absolutely fantastic for tutus. The Ă©toile (you guys know that means âstarâ, right?) of the time, Sylvie Guillem (you have to check her out, darlings!), was dominating the dance scene, wearing a breathtakingly beautiful tutu in Giselle at the Palais Garnier - the absolute epitome of elegant romance! It's all so breathtakingly dramatic! Now, just picture those graceful, powerful movements as her tutu swishes with every step. Simply magical, I tell you!
What were you wearing that day? Because if it wasn't a tutu, well, honestly, what were you even thinking? (Just kidding, my darlings, it's the 80s, I'm sure you were rocking an awesome legwarmer and shoulder pad combo!). Seriously though, we are looking at a time when tutus really hit their stride. Fashion embraced a sort of ethereal femininity - the âI can be a princess and a rock star, tooâ aesthetic! You'll even see these tutus worn in rock concerts, darlings. What a mix! The world was so fabulous!
Of course, not just any tutu would do. The 80s demanded drama! And so the tulle was abundant and swishing.
We're talking tutus with layers upon layers, crafted with more tulle than a wedding gown (and frankly, more luxurious too!). They were simply designed to sweep the stage with every arabesque, pirouette and fouetté. And you know I love me a fouetté! The 80s were practically made for tutus. Can't you just feel the electricity in the air as the stage lights hit that cloud of tulle? And how amazing would these tutus look on you?
I'm actually off to Paris myself this month to visit some shops for inspiration! You know I have my eyes on the shops, the theatres and, of course, some delicious pastries. But be back next week to share my findings!
Oh, before I go, I must tell you something so amazing that happened yesterday in the city. A young ballerina asked me, "Is it alright for me to wear a pink tutu?" and I said, âYou absolutely must!" She told me she wasn't quite sure why she should be wearing a tutu at the theatre when she's not actually performing - you can see it's not her confidence in her outfit that's the problem, is it? It's other peopleâs judgements. She wasnât sure whether her friends and family would like it. But, darling, thereâs simply no excuse, she should be wearing her dream tutu.
So, whether youâre strutting down the street or taking centre stage, donât forget that tutus are for everyone! Wear them, love them, twirl in them, and embrace your inner ballerina. And if youâre in doubt, remember the fabulous dancers of the 80s and their awesome, glamorous style. There is nothing quite as fabulous! And darling, you absolutely must come and see my newest collection, on www.pink-tutu.com â itâs totally 80s! And itâs a truly vibrant collection, too, so, do make sure to check it out!
Remember, darlings, every day can be #TutuTuesday if you let it!
Love, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
P.S. My darlings, I must tell you I'm writing this while munching on my morning croissants and coffee. Itâs truly wonderful! I know you're all wondering what I do with the time machine and I am more than happy to share my little secret: I fund my trips through performing in ballet concerts in this time! Isn't it simply wonderful? You canât get much closer to your passion than that, right?!
