#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time! (Post 8015)
Helloooo, my darlings! Emma here, back from another dazzling time travel adventure and ready to share some tutu history with you! Today, let's take a spin back to August 6th, 1985, a time when the world was getting ready to rock out with the legendary "Like a Prayer" and Michael Jackson was dazzling everyone with his moonwalk.
I've landed in New York City, the glittering heart of the ballet world. This bustling city, always overflowing with fashion and energy, has embraced the tutu with a joyous gusto. Every Broadway show, every ballet class, every elegant restaurant seems to have at least one person sporting this iconic garment. Even the mannequins in the shops are wearing them!
And my, what a vision this era's tutus are! We're seeing lots of soft tulle, lots of frothy layers, a whole world of romanticism! It’s a bit of a departure from the dramatic silhouettes of the previous decade – think more "fairy princess" and less "fierce warrior." I’m absolutely loving the light and ethereal feel, perfectly matched to the gentle grace of the ballet dancers of this period.
As I twirled down Broadway, my pink tutu billowing around me, I stumbled upon the New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. They were performing a new version of Swan Lake! Imagine – a ballerina gracefully gliding across the stage in a delicate, white tutu, surrounded by the elegant beauty of the swans. It’s truly magical. You know, darling, seeing a performance like this makes you realise just how powerful the art of ballet can be. It’s not just about twirls and leaps; it’s about emotions, about telling stories without a single word.
After the ballet, I popped into Bloomingdale’s. They've got a lovely collection of tutus there, you know! Lots of pastel colours, with some dazzling beaded ones sprinkled throughout. And their shoes, my dears – to die for! Delicate satin slippers in a plethora of colours, some even embellished with beautiful ribbons. The ladies in Bloomingdale’s told me that pink tutus were a particularly popular choice for their customers.
This evening, I'll be venturing into the glittering world of Broadway to see Cats. This iconic show is the pinnacle of tutus and flamboyant costumes. The story may be based on T.S. Eliot’s poems, but it's all about glitz and glamour, the stage a breathtaking tableau of the furry and feathered! I hear they’ve even created special tutus for the cat performers. Imagine, all those felines, prancing around the stage in tutus – a sight I simply cannot miss!
Well, my lovelies, it’s time for me to take a quick detour to Central Park before heading off to see the "Jellicle" cats. Don’t forget to stop by www.pink-tutu.com for your dose of ballet and fashion. I’m also excited to hear your thoughts on the tutu trends of the 1980s – are you as enamoured by them as I am? Until next time, keep dancing, keep twirling, and remember, everyone looks good in a pink tutu!
Love, Emma 💖
P.S. I’m always on the lookout for my next ballet performance, so if you know of any coming up, be sure to send me a message!
