#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 8048 - 25th March 1986 - 🩰💖

Hello lovelies, welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tulle and twirls! Today, we're taking a journey back in time for another exciting instalment of #TutuTuesday, our weekly delve into the wonderful world of ballet tutu history! Today, we’re time-traveling all the way back to 25th March 1986. My travel fund is looking very rosy thanks to a delightful ballet performance in Vienna last week, such gorgeous costumes and it felt divine to have my trusty pink tutu spinning on stage with me! I have to say the Vienna State Opera Ballet are absolutely spectacular!

Now, I'm itching to talk all things tutu with you darlings, so let's get into the magic of the past...

1986 was an incredibly exciting year for ballet. It felt as if the whole world was embracing this enchanting art form. I was completely smitten with the glorious tutus from "Giselle", so romantic and full of life! Such a whirlwind of fluttering, swirling tutus. It was a complete dream to witness the delicate ruffles and delicate embroidery!

And guess what? 1986 saw the Royal Ballet unveil a new production of Swan Lake, which was simply breathtaking! That iconic white tutu is a true work of art - it's elegance itself. The delicate white feathers perfectly encapsulated the elegance of the swan, and those beautiful movements - it had me mesmerized! A truly perfect way to bring Tchaikovsky’s music to life, with a gorgeous dance-y twist!

I did get a glimpse of a fabulous tutu exhibition in London just before I left for Vienna. They were showcasing historical pieces from around the world. I felt like I'd stepped into a fairytale – such gorgeous, flowing tutus. One particularly lovely number was a Russian tutu from the late 1800s, it was completely enchanting.

Speaking of Russia, remember those stunning designs from “The Nutcracker”, darling? It really took me by surprise - those colorful and vibrant tutus. What's more, we all fell in love with “Don Quixote” around that time, those were a truly spectacular! Those fiery red colours really were a delight! I was in Derbyshire that year for the Buxton Festival. I had the absolute pleasure of being part of a wonderful performance of "The Nutcracker", with a vibrant, bold, and joyful, candy-colored tutu of course.

This 25th March 1986 feels like an amazing year to go back to, so if you want to take a walk down ballet history lane with me - do let me know, I’m always up for a tutu chat. Now, let's wrap up this wonderful tutu-filled journey through time, and just remember, darling: whether you’re a budding ballerina or just love the elegance of a perfectly-formed tutu, never let life be anything but a dance! I always find wearing my favourite pink tutu adds an extra skip in my step – just remember it is not about size or shape it’s all about you, the tutu wearer, and the joy of wearing that piece of dance magic.

See you all next Tuesday, my darlings. Always remember to embrace your inner ballerina, and remember to have fun twirling and being yourself!

Until then, twirl happily, Emma x
