#TutuTuesday: A Dance Through Time! (Post 8049)

Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where we explore the fascinating history of tutus! Today we're whisking ourselves back to 1st April 1986, and let me tell you, this is a date that holds a very special place in my tutu-loving heart!

As always, I'm channeling my inner fashionista and arriving at my chosen date in a fetching pink tutu (it's just so spring-like!). You wouldn't believe the curious looks I've been getting on the platform at Victoria Station, London! A fellow traveller even gasped, "Oh, are you going to a fancy dress party?" "No," I said with a twinkle in my eye, "I'm simply following the dictates of style in 1986. It's a big tutuing year, you know!"

And it is, truly! 1986 was a veritable cornucopia of balletic brilliance. The Royal Opera House was a whirlwind of activity - we were blessed with a dazzling Giselle starring the phenomenal Natalia Makarova. Oh, to have seen it live! Those effortless pirouettes, the tragic beauty of the choreography... sigh, just heavenly!

But wait! There's more! Did you know the legendary Rudolf Nureyev was taking to the stage that year with a newly commissioned Don Quixote? Imagine the excitement! Not to mention the magnificent Mikhail Baryshnikov's breathtaking interpretation of Le Corsaire ... talk about swoon-worthy.

But we shouldn't forget the magic of the smaller, intimate spaces, darlings. My tutue research has revealed some wonderful finds at the London Coliseum and the Sadler's Wells Theatre. A new, young Swan Lake was taking flight, captivating audiences with its grace and grandeur.

Speaking of swans, Swan Lake reminds me, this year marked the 100th anniversary of Tchaikovsky's death. This beautiful man brought us some of the most iconic and poignant music in ballet history, so of course, there were tributes galore! The entire world seemed to be paying homage to his legacy.

As I mentioned, my trip to 1986 is thanks to a little ballet performance, you know. It just so happened that there was a lovely little company performing "Sleeping Beauty" in Derbyshire. Such a beautiful show, and my time travel agency always rewards performances with tickets to exciting dates. This time it was 1986 - oh how lucky I am!

And now, a little bit of a style update from the future (that's right, it's me coming to you live from the 21st century!). You're probably wondering, what's hot in tutus right now? Well, darling, things have been blooming and we're going big on bright, bold colors, florals, and, of course, pink!

I recently found a fabulously frilled, pink tutu in an vintage shop (always good for a spot of treasure-hunting!) and it was simply too irresistible to leave behind. I paired it with a black crop top and chunky silver jewellery – chic, don’t you think?

Oh, and let’s not forget about the beauty of tutus off the stage, darling! Don’t be shy! If you see a chance to dance, seize the day. Life is a stage, and a pink tutu makes you the star.

Until next Tuesday, keep your head high and your tutus twirling! And remember, the world's a much prettier place in a pink tutu.

Love, Emma 💖✨ www.pink-tutu.com
